Serious engine oil issue.....HELP!!!

Serious engine oil issue.....HELP!!!

My car engine started rattling then the oil light started flashing. When I checked the oil it was extremely low. I had to add a full 5 quarts of oil to bring it up to the fill line. I have been running Mobil One 5w30 for the past two years but this past oil change that took place two months ago they(Jiffy Lube) put in Mobil One 5W20. Help!!!!!!

The car has 125,000 miles on it and this is the first time I am seeing this issue.
It’s a 2003.5 G35 sedan.

Jiffy Lube..... first mistake. I've personally seen them ruin engines. Have the oil changed at a reputable place and monitor the oil level at least twice a week. Not much else you can do since it's out of warranty. If you in fact have OC issues you'll need a new engine eventually.

Mobile 1 actually seems to burn faster than most other oils...

the oil weight isnt going to make a difference here

Most of the time the oil places do a good job, people just hear things. Just like stuff about best Buy..... anywho

If its been two months since your oil change i don't think the oil plce is to blame, you would of noticed it right away. Only thing I can think of is maybe the oil filter is not on right or the seal didn't seal. Possibly the oil plug is not screwed in all the way?

This kinda thing is hard to diagnose over the inter web

Most likely you will need a new motor....those oil lights are no good at warning because once they come on or flash it's too late. You could be 2 to 3 quarts low and your oil light would not come on..The only reason I caught my oil issue on my G in time is because I pulled the dipstick everytime before driving it. If you added 5 Quarts then that motor ran with no oil basically which is the worst outcome (Engine Done) Sorry dude, wish I could help......

After adding the 5 quarts of 5w30 I drove the 35 miles to work this morning. The engine is running as smooth as ever. I'll check the level at lunch.

Hopefully it's cool but you can never go wrong by checking your oil level everyday you drive it... Most members in the DC area that experienced your issue had toasted motors after allowing the oil light to come on but I pretty sure there is a S M A R T A S S on site that will say otherwise....

It is also a very good idea to check the oil level right after you had your oil changed by anyone else (especially if you were not standing right next to them while they were doing it) just to make sure they put the right amount in. If you can, be there while it's being done.
I had a Toyota Paseo that has the oil capacity of 3.5 qts. and two different Jiffy Lube places both put about 5 qts. in. which is huge in such a small engine. Needless to say, those were the only two times I went to a quick lube place. :-)

In 12+ years of owning vehicles, the only one who's ever done an oil change on them has been myself.

I thought about letting the dealer do it on my G, but in the end it's easier for me to crawl under there and bang it out in 15 mins vs driving to the dealer and waiting. Plus i know it's done to my standards

I checked it at lunch. It looks fine. Same level as last night when I filled it.
The engine light is still on steady. The oil light is off.

Engine light will normally stay on after it has been tripped for about 200 miles in my experience. I would just reset the ECU and see if it comes back on.

1,2,3 - 1,2,3,4,5 - 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 - hold 10 - wait 10 - hold 10 - off - on

IMHO the oil light is low pressure not low level.

Just keep checking the level every few days. If it's okay, then check every gas fillup.
