used car value

I've found that there's not a whole lot of research on used G35s because they're so new... I'm about to take a look at a 2003 (not 2003.5 - uh-oh) used G35 sedan, and the private seller is asking $26,500 for it. It was purchased in March of 2002 and has 22k miles!!! Is this a fair price? How can I guage how much these used G35s should cost? I've heard horror stories of other women being taken advantage of at used car dealers... and I don't want that to happen to me!

Re: used car value

It would help if you could list the optional packages the car has. A base-model cloth-seat G35 went new for about 27k. A fully-loaded one goes for 39k. So, depending on what this car has, it could be a good deal or a rip off. Unfortunately, not enough G35's have been sold as used for sources like Edmund's and Kelly's Blue Book to provide you with data. I can't tell you how much to knock of for mileage, maybe someone else can help there.

However, take a look at the car and see what options it has. If they still have the window sticker, that would be great. If not, here's some things to look for:

First, look for leather seats to determine if it's a base model or a Luxury Leather model. If it's a base model, there aren't many options available, and the price you're being quoted I would only consider fair if the car were brand new.

Premium Package - look for automatic headlamps (4-position headlight control instead of 3-position) and dual climate controls.

Sport Package - 17" 5-spoke wheels and a titanium/silver colored center console.

Bose stereo - Bose logo would be on the cassette deck flap

Sunroof - umm.. sunroof?

Nav system - at the top of the center console, there's a button to pop up an LCD screen instead of a little pop-open cubby hole.

Winter package - on the center console between the seats will be buttons for the heated seats, left and right of the cupholder.

Then there's the Aero Package and Aerodynamic Body Kit. If you have a rear spoiler and the trim around the bottom of the car is black, you probably have the Aero Pkg. If the trim around the bottom of the car is body-colored and looks more stylish/aerodynamic, you have the Aerodynamic Body Kit (which also has a rear spoiler). It's possible to have both packages. It's also possible to have an aftermarket rear spoiler.

Then, go to Infiniti's website's Build Your Own section, and find out roughtly what the MSRP of your car would have been. It's a starting point.

Re: used car value

If it has leather interior and the rear seats recline then it has the premium package and its a good deal. If it just has leather interior and no reclining back seats then its just a standard leather G35 and the price is a little on the high side unless it has a sun roof and sport suspension.. If it has cloth interior then the price is to high.

Great replies. I agree that if it has premium, it sounds like a fair price. But that's a lot of miles. I'd want an extended warrantee to go with it as you will likely be well out of warrantee on miles way before years. Good luck.
