G35VS 300M And the winner is...
Re: G35VS 300M And the winner is...
Like I said, it is very heavy...like a tank! Makes you think that the car mags srtipped everything out including all the seats (except for the driver's of course ;-) for their test drives.

I test drove a 300C before I got my G.... they are quick.
From what I remember that silky smooth hemi in the 300C had great bottom end but seemed to run out of breath at the top end.
Bottom line I think it would come down to the drivers.

True, but that tank weighs 4046lbs. 677lbs more than the g35 sedan leather a/t. That's a hell of a difference, for a difference of 80 hp(260 g vs. 340 for the tank). Just my .02 cents

I agree, they are a tank.
I had a chance to push the car through some quick switchbacks. It was really funny how it plowed through.
The rear wheel drive helped, but it still felt like I was steering an elephant.
Especially compared to the G

All i know is we can fix our cars up better and faster than the 300C... sports cars, sports sedan car in our case, is not meant to be stock. so that car will eat my dust in 6 months.
Re: G35VS 300M And the winner is...
300C Hemi would be a close run. I saw it on autoweek. The Hemi Dodge Magnum does about a 6.2 0-60. I figure the 300C would be about the same - big, clunky car. Of course the 300 is just plain FUGLY and over the long-run, I'd be concerned about how well that displacement on demand is going to hold up. Chryslers have notoriously bad quality and displacement on demand (electronically controlled) is new. It was a dismal failure with the old vacuum-powered Cadillac V8-6-4.
And yes, the interior completely bites. I sat in one at the Chicago Auto Show.

I'll play devils advocate to show the other side.
Of course you guys don't like the styling on the 300C, you bought G35s which is a totally different style. The 300C is a design on the other side of the spectrum that takes certain people to appreciate.
In a straight line i'd say the 300C would blow away the G35, they are rated at "2005 Chrysler 300C 5.6 14.1". However in turns the G35 would do the same to the 300C. The 300C is not a sports car and it doesn't want to be, its a cruising sedan with lots of power. If they designed it with quick cornering in mind they would have made it shorter, lower, and lighter. I've read the designers notes and this is what he had in mind when designing it. Its the same as you don't see people taking rolls royce's and bentleys in the twisties racing even though they have hundreds more HP than a G35. Also in response to how much the 300C weights, yup its a lot, and its also a much larger car with a bigger engine hence the weight. Did everyone expect it to be less weight? Also note the G35x weight, it is quite beefy itself, gaining a couple hundred pounds off its non awd counterparts.
The quality has been bad for Chrysler for years but many driving reports are praising the quality of the new Chyslers and they have moved up several places in the quality brand rankings.

Well...it's hot in S. Florida, and the tint sure keeps my black G35 cooler; and it looks good too. ;-)

Click on my link the guy with the 300C best 1/4 time was 14.8... that isn't going to beat a G35 in a straight line.. maybe Chrysler sent ringers to the mags

Neil:
I agree that the Chrysler 300C has it's place, and it's not in the same category as the G35 in any sense. I, personally, like the looks of the 300C - it's a big, muscular car, and it looks the part, but everyone has got their own opinions on that. I've been impressed by Chrysler's designs, and their guts to build them, for many years - the quality is another issue. The 300C will perform well as intended - a big, brawny boulevard cruiser and long distance Interstate tourer - a great "goin' to Vegas car".
The G35 is a great "going to Tahoe" car - climbing the twisty canyon and mountain roads, through the forests and the valleys, where a "driver's" car excels. The G35 wants to go everywhere, too, but it begs to go "By way of Omaha" - it's just a lot more entertaining, engaging, and plain FUN to take the backroads, the hills and twisties, and the long way home in this car. It will, of course, run right with the 300C on any Interstate - it'll just be bored doing so.
To each his own, IMHO.
