Im kinda new with this manual option in my car, and i just had a question. I was told that when racing a car and u hit about 4th gear you can switch from auto to tip tap it down a couple times and switch back to drive... i guess kinda like double clutching. Is this true? If so i would love to try it next race. dont wanna screw up anything the first time.
Re: ? about tip
If your in 4th gear the lowest you'll be able to tap the tiptronic down is gonna be 3rd gear even depending on how high your revs are in 4th gear. Most of the time even at 5k rpm in 4th it will downshift to 3rd but will be near redline, in lower gears it wont even switch untils its really safe, its weird. Why would you want to tap it down after or during racing and hitting 4th? To slow down? Just use the manumatic mode all the time like me =) I just have to wait 2 years for my 6spd, sucks!! Martin

FWIW...I'm an old MT guy with bad knees that is forced to use an AT now.
I'm not sure how any kind of AT manual shift is anything like double clutching. Double clutching goes along with rev matching and is related to manual trans only.
IMO the type of shift you mention would only apply if you are cruising in D. Then you pop it over to MM for an immediate downshift to 4M as you floor it. Depending what your revs are you could also tip down once for 3m, then as you accelerate, manualy shift back up at normal shift points.
