Really know how to drive the manumatic?

For awhile, I was really jealous of the manual (well, still am), but most people own the auto, so we have to figure out how to be happiest with it.

I'm still figuring out how to drive the auto-stick faster, but getting better. I'm wondering what percentage of people know that it's better to just hit the shift about a half-second before you expect to hit well into the mid-range.

I was shifting to 6K+, but noticed that the car itself shifts in the mid's and is sh*t-fast. Sooooo... that's how I shift. It's pretty dang fast when you do it. It's even better in auto-mode after resetting the ECU. If you haven't done that yet, it's quite worth it.

That's strange... I don't find shifting at mid rpm range optimum at all. On my car if leave it in auto mode, it will shift at high end rpm with WOT.
I also find manual shifting depends on load.
If you are at partial throttle, shift points are pretty crisp.
Under WOT there is a lot more lag. I use the tac & shift about 500 rpm before my target
