sedan 6MT owners...how is traction?
I've had my eye on the 05/06 G35 sedan 6MT for a while now and decided that it is the car for me. Going from a fwd 5speed sedan(96 maxima) to a rwd 6mt sedan would obviously take a little getting used to. The only thing I'm worried about is traction, especially in wintery conditions.
I've done some reasearch but wasn't able to find out certain things. Do these cars have traction control? I assume they would, but wasn't sure. In your own experiences, how is driving in wintery conditions?
A G35x 6mt sedan would be a dream!! but obviously, they don't exist...or do they??

The G35x are automatic only so you're "stuck" with RWD. No complaints there though!
I've had my G for 3 years now. I live outside of Philly and make it to NJ pretty often. No problems here so far. Drove through first winter on stock summer Potenzas then had them replaced with Eagle RS-As, all seasons. All season tires are, IMO, about all you need in our area. First winter I spent a couple of days stuck and unable to get out (due to poor plowing at the apartments I lived in). This past winter I lived on a street that doesn't get plowed and have had little trouble.
Yes, you slide around the corners rather easily but as long as you take it slow you're OK.

Short answer. . .if you have good tires, than you'll be just fine. . .i'm up in salt lake, and have dedicated winter and summer tires. . .its allll about teh tires, if you have decent dedicated winter tires, than you will be able to go through just about anything. . .though, you're up in NJ, where the problem is more ice than snow. . .same theory applies, but maybe you can get away with just good all season tires.. .or if you're hardcore, get studded tires.
I would think with a good set of winter tires the G35 should go better than most fwd's due to its limited slip. People will usually tell you that without AWD or at least FWD you'll be stuck in the winter but they forget that 20-30 years ago almost everyone drove a big sloopy rwd V8 in the winter without trouble.
I'm from Central Jersey, and I also went from a maxima (2003) to the G35 Sedan 6speed. It's fine in the winter. I got winter tires (blizzak LM-22) and I had zero issues. You just have to take it easy. Sometimes it would slip on a hill really bad or accelerate too hard and the Traction Control/Stability Control would kick in so hard that the car stalled. =p In those cases you turn off the traction control and it's not a problem at all. I would def. get a set of snow tires just incase.
I loved the 4th gen maximas, and a 5MT nice! But you cant go wrong with a G.
I agree on getting deticated set of snow tires. I've gone through 2 Chicago winters with my RWD G and its fine. I purchased a set of used rims and Blizzak tires and they perform great and I think it drives better in the snow than some FWD cars with A/S tires. I'd rather drift around turns than have my front wheels try to move and turn the car at the same time. The VDC and ABS systems, the rear VLSD and snow tires all do a great job together getting through the winter.

at least in a mt you can control it better. I slammed my old 90 300zxTT into a wall in cincinati during an ice storm because she decided to downshift while going up a small incline on the interstate.....glad the g's have manual mode on the auto's
