Saw 05 Front, Rear, Rims, Smart Key

I placed my order for a 05 G35x Saturday.

My Business manager friend at Oakville Nissan showed me pics that he personally took when they were given the opportunity to test drive the 05 Prototype.

The Front is just like the spy shots / official nissan photos except for one thing. The Extra intake / inlet hole on the lower grill.

The Rear the shape of the lights are the same ... but the LEDs themselves have taken the shape of TWO circles, the coupe currently has 1, but the Sedan now has TWO!

What that means is at night, the G35 will now take the same look as the classic Skylines, with the 4 circle rear tailights!

The RIMS ... the new 17" rims on the X and the Non-Sport pack G35s are exactly like the current Coupe 18's but just 1 inch smaller!

The Smart Key is what's interesting ... my friend told me its basically an improved version of the FX45 one.

And we get a new Key/Key Fob, kinda like Mercedes, there isn't an actual Metal Key ... its all in one! Its a Silver, small bullet shaped key fob. **Same as the one on the M Concept**

He also told me that during the test drive, he noticed that the Automatic tranny, has the ability to "Double Clutch" or in Automatic terms, "blip" the throttle so downshifting is smoother!

Re: Saw 05 Front, Rear, Rims, Smart Key

I wonder if we can get an ECU & TCU flash to update to the new '05. I'm still having issues with my MM shifting...slight delay but more importantly, it's not always upshifting into the selected gear the first tiime (so I have to upshift again for it to engage -- some people call it "fighting with the MM 5AT tranny").

I demonstrated this with my Infiniti service mgr in the car (duplicated it 2x from 3rd-4th gear); he asked me to "monitor it" and said that they would address it, but I know they don't quite know what to do (they've said b4 that my MM tranny is 'operating within normal parameters'), so I may wait until the '05's come out and ask that they update my ECU and TCU with the new software flashes. My service mgr mentioned this could be a possiblity as we figure this might resolve those issues (and potentially give me some more HP as well ;-)

btw - I would love to get a new keyfob or the Intelligent Key System like in our '03 FX35 but I'm guessing this will be a new option that's a factory built-in and only avail. on the new cars with that option. It's a great feature for those that have it...my wife's fav feature of our FX35! ;-)

Me too. I hope it won't cost an arm and a leg to swap out my only tail light set with 05 one.

That might not be as easy, if it's a smart key like MB.
Smart keys just have a start button. You can actually keep the fob in your pocket, it just has to be in range to enable start button.

Yes, our FX35 has it; you just need the keyfob in your pocket or purse or whatever so the car can sense the keyfob's radio frequency (RF) and you can unlock/lock the doors. There's no "start" button like in a Honda S2k; you just turn the ignition to start it. I doubt we could upgrade to this unit in our older G's.

I know you cant get the smart key I was just saying maybe some people might want to get the new key fob design. I would do the light swtich if its compatible and low cost.

Re: Saw 05 Front, Rear, Rims, Smart Key

Empz,

I've always loved the exterior looks of either the coupe or the sedan, but it's been the interior where I think the G falls short. Did you find anything out about any major or minor changes with the 05's interior?

Thanks for all this great info!
Edited by fotodad on 07/18/04 10:01 AM.
