Head Lamp maintenance

My head lamps are starting to get foggy. Would I have to remove the Lamps to clean them? I do not really know to do that, I might damage to the car.

You sure the fog is inside? Is it water vapor? If so, then taking them apart would be the only solution. If the plastic is just getting less clear, then there are ways to rub out the lenses to make them all nice and shiny again..

I am having the same problem. I have some discoloration and condensation in my head lights. I am considering buying new ones cause I think it would improve the look of he car. I would really rather spend $300 on a performance mod so I don't know what to do. I read how to change the lights and I know I could do it but it looks like a PITA!

Fellas, the foggy/hazy look of the headlights is from the years of the sun beating down on the plastic. Common problem around here. It's not inside the headlight, just on the outside of the lens. Pick up of Meguiars Plastix and put on the headlight lens. It will clear up in seconds. Repeat to get better results. For better results you can use a Porter Cable.

I will try this on Saturday. Thanks for the tip! You're the man.

not a problem man. When I first got my g (3 years ago) my headlights were in the same condition (looked awful). Got some advice here on the site, picked up some plastx, and went at it. Did WONDERS. They look brand new now. I usually polish them up about once a month or so in the summer since it's hotter. Winter, maybe once every 2-3 months

Should i try wet-sanding my lights? I saw a few sites detailing steps on how to wetsand the lights. Is that safe on our headlights? I think i may just try a couple of applications of plastx and if that doesn't work i will move to the wet-sanding. Has anyone tried wet-sanding their G35 lights?

i have done that 5 step wet sanding proses its not to bad took me about 2 hours to do the headlights on my buddies dodge avenger and those lights were BAAAAAAAAAAAAD u couldnt even see inside the lense at all we were shocked to find out how nice it looks

the wet sand will only be needed if ur light are WAAAYYYY to far gone otherwise plastx should work just fine

I tried the wet sanding method before and it produced "so-so" results. After reading this I gotta say you guys have me pretty sold on the Plastix. My lights aren't bad at all but I'd rather keep them looking nice instead of letting them get to far gone.

if you wetsand very lightly with 2500grit plus then apply a lot of plastix it makes them look brand new. I even did the inside of the lens and it helped a ton!

The best part, is the Plast-X has a picture of our cars on the bottle!

Wet sanding will only make the lights become hazed more quickly. There is actually a protective layer over the outside of the lense. If you wet sand, you will actual bring the lens down to it's raw natural state. It will come off and the haze and fogginess wil come back sooner and worse. Doing the inside of the lens is even worse.

I don't advise brining any type of sand paper towards your headlight lens's unless they are BADLY worn (to the point where nothing will work).

exactly that stuff works wonders. You will notice the results instantly. I used it on the headlights of my sister's '95 altima which had turned digustingly yellow. 2 minutes of elbow grease and they looked brand new.
