MPG? or GPM?

Wow, I have a new G35 Sedan (Garnet Fire with Graphite & Premium)! I am getting horrendous mileage. The first 11 gallons only went about 130 miles!

Is this going to get better?

I love the car, and admittedly have pushed the peddle a little harder than necessary a few times, but my maxima got 19 under the worst conditions and 25 on long trips.

Any suggestions?

Re: MPG? or GPM?

I was getting 14-15 mpg for the first 1200 mi. or so until I read up on a few things on some other 'Gas Mileage' threads. As someone suggested, try to be a little easier on the car and try to get into 5th gear as much as possible if using MM mode or in the 6MT (e.g. crusing around the city in 5th gear at 50+ mph). Also, if using MM mode or 6MT, try upshifting at 2k-2.5k rpm, instead of 3k+ rpm. Since I implemented these gas saving procedures, I'm now consisently getting 17-18 mpg in the city (20 mpg mix city/highway, and I've always been getting 23 mpg highway). note - I still have plenty of fun with WOT now and then; just not all the time ;-) I now have 2k mi. on my car.

btw - some have suggested that our mpg will get better after the car is broken in...some say after 3k mi. and some say after 5k mi. Be patient...your car's ECU is still learning your driving habits, and your mpg will improve over some time.

Re: MPG? or GPM?

Sounds like your driving is almost all stop and go. Not surprising that you're getting about 12 mpg but a word of caution, if your G is brand new, Infiniti recommends taking it easy. That ought to help your mileage considerably.

LOL...
My first tank was only 14mpg....of course I was stupid and WOT several times on the highway from Phoenix to Tucson. Got 17 mpg on the way back. Now I'm usually at about 22 mpg.

Re: MPG? or GPM?

Since eclipsing the 1200 mile break in period, I'm getting exactly 20mpg with my X (running 91 or 93 octane) 50% highway with occassional heavy throttle (can't resist it). Its almost scary how close to 20mpg it is every time I calculate it (manually)

Re: MPG? or GPM?

Im getting anywhere from 19-23 with the X depending on how its driven. It started at about 16, and it slowly worked up to higher numbers after break-in. Got about 6500 miles now.

Re: MPG? or GPM?

Move the seat further away from the gas pedal.

After 2-3k miles my milage went up. Maybe just because I wasn't running it up to 3999 RPM in every gear!

Re: MPG? or GPM?

I drive fairly hard and get 19-20 MPG in a mix of city and freeway driving. On a recent road trip (almost all freeway), I got 26 MPG. Mileage definitely got better over time, so hang in there.
