Always up. Easier for the kid and the dog. And I hate the cheap look of the plastic pass through "door".

Only have it down when I go skiing and actually use the pass through.

Fake or not, not like i could walk out to my car holding it freely in my hand.
In So Cal you would be shot dead by law enforcement if you had that out and remotely pointed... I fully understood your concern. I got locked out of an apartment I previously lived in because I heard someone on the roof and grabbed my gun and went up there (gun in deep pocket of baggy shorts) - when I returned to my place I realized I locked the door with keys inside I had to go to the management office and wait for maintenance to arrive to let me in - I was paranoid the entire time hoping they didn’t notice a gun in my pocket I kept expecting cops to show up ~

I guess in places where everyone carries, it’s no big deal.

Haha, had something similar happen to me. I'd just completed a concealed carry class a few days earlier, but wasn't CCW licensed yet, and was wearing my new holster and pistol (unloaded) just to see how it felt while doing some stuff around the house, yard, garage, etc. My neighbor asked me to help him move his boat trailer, so I came over, and without thinking took off the light jacket I was wearing, and he just stopped and stared at me. D'oh! I was legal in my house, legal in my garage, kinda murky out in the yard, definitely illegal in my neighbor's yard with the jacket on, and then back to legal with the jacket off. He just laughed as I aplogized and went home to umm ... disarm.

OK, back on topic.

After nearly 2 full days of driving my car with the rear arm rest in the down position, during which time it was studied very carefully and meticulously, I can say unequivocally and with absolute confidence that ...

... it made no difference whatsoever. I didn't even really notice it. If anything, it made the back seat look smaller and more cluttered. Up it goes tomorrow morning. Sorry Janik. I tried.

I drove with it down today. It keeps my laptop from sliding around on my backseat!

I like!

I'm giving "down" a try. I also just lowered my rear headrests and reclined the rear seats all the way back. It gives me more viewing room out the back window. We'll see how i like it.
