My Tranny Was Acting a Bit Wierd Tonight...

As many of you know, i am on a road trip and am right now in Salt Lake City UT.

Ok, so my transmission is acting WIERD. Tonight when i was accelerating onto a freeway, it was holding first gear really long, then when it shifted from 2nd to third at WOT (right around 45-60mph) it would delay, almost like it was hitting the rev limiter in manumatic mode. ALso when its on the freeway at a certain speed (not sure what) and you let off the gas, it like, shudders the car.

Idk what the deal is. It has not done this all day until we got to my hotel, shut it off, went inside, hung around for 30 mins then went back out.

I do NOT beat on my car (anymore than anyone else does on this forum, im really easy on it..) so im not sure how that could affect it.

All i know is, if it doesn't STOP, by tomorrow when i head to Reno, i might have Riverside Infiniti take a look at that while they are doing my oil change.

My car only has 46k, it shouldnt be doing this. Although, i always thought my tranny acted, differently, atelast compared to the other AT Gs i have driven. Its not as smooth and has a lot of hesitation. Maybe in its prior life when it was a fleet vehicle it has the absolute **** beat out of it.

This is what the powertrain warranty is for, my car shouldnt be doing this.

The only known issue with the 5at is the valve body TSB that reports that some owners experience a shudder during 5th gear during lockup and partial lockup. The problem you describe sounds very different. I have an 06 5at sedan and I can say that my tranny does change it's shifting habits due to my driving style. For example, after some high speed driving that generating plenty of WOT acceleration, etc, regular, the tranny tends to shift higher in RPMs than normal. The opposite is also true. If you drive like really conservative for a while the tranny gets lazy and shifts slower and in lower RPMs.

At 46k miles, you should not have any problems with this tranny. I would check the fluid level via the procedure in the service manual to ensure that the fluid level is right. Also, you may have experienced the tranny fluid getting too hot during your road trip. I believe you need a consult to read that temp measurement.

If I were you, I'd let the car sit overnight and see how it feels tomorrow.

How was it serviced? Service as specified in the service manual or with the flushing machine? I haven't heard good things from flushing these transmissions. Drain and Fill is the way i go.

I dont know. They did a service at the dealer. Not sure exactly how.

And it is possible that it heated up. I put close to 800 miles on my car today. Straight driving.

Its wierd though that it lags before shifting into third.

Its like buaaaaah ding ding buahha.

Like its hitting the rev limiter. Its wierd!

Wait, whats lockup and partial lockup? The shudder sounds familiar, as it is only on highway speeds when the car shifts into 5th.

THis is for 06-07s, but the 05 tranny is exactly the same.
https://g35driver.com/forums/tsb-tec...6-07-5ats.html

Lockup is when the two different sides of the torque converter 'lock' together such that they are spinning at the same speed, therefor no longer providing any torque multiplication. Transmissions have done this since the mid-90s. It helps auto transmissions highway fuel economy approach that of a manual trans.

Hey man. You might wanna take your car into Tim Dahle Infiniti. They are off of State St and 4500 S.

They are a good dealership and are familiar with a lot of problems. I've talked to the service manager as well as the parts manager who are knowledgable. At least give them a call tomorrow.

I would say that it sounds like something is weird with the valve body. That is what controls shift and could cause some of the symptoms you are dealing with right now.

Wish I was still in SLC, I'd come check out your ride. GL with it man. At least talk to them before you leave SLC.

Yeah they are very good to deal with and even sometimes go out of there way to find other known problems. Give Tim Dahle a call before you head out that sucks about your car bro best of luck! I bought my car from them btw.

Maybe this is why your car is so slow!!!

I would heed the advice of willey and have it checked out ASAP.... Might be nothing serious, but it would suck to be stranded in the middle of nowhere with a bum transmission.

BTW, I'm proud of you for coming out of the closet and letting us know about your tranny. Not many people are confident enough in their sexuality to share that with others
