Hard starts on occassion with G35 2003 114k

Hey fellas - haviing this really annoying problem. I've been pretty precise on taking care of the normal maintenance for my G, so this is very aggravating.

So I start the car and the cranking begins, but doesnt want to stop! lol - it cranks for about 5 secs sometimes and sometimes even longer. But other times it starts right up. Brought it to the dealer and they quickly assumed it was the crank sensor, replaced it and 900 bucks later (along with other maintenance stuff) I still have the problem. I called back and scheduled an appt. I am going back in tomorrow but I figured I'd throw this out here to my fellow G peeps.

Any suggestions/comments welcome - thanks for your time. Peace....1

Could be plugs, packs, fuel injectors, pump, MAF, etc. We need more details.

I'd be pretty pissed at them for charging 900 bucks and not fixing the problem.

Believe me I was steaming! but my service manager is a cool dude and he strong armed me an appt with a loaner the same week. I just had the 100k big service done and I believe it included changing the spark plugs. Basically it sounds like its hesitating to start almost like its not getting enough of something. Kinda like when the air filter is clogged (mine was already changed and is clean). Dont know how else to describe it.

Could be a dirty throttle body. This scenario happened to me before with my previous car. Check the DIY video link for the how-to:

I would clean the MAF, Throttle Body (forgot about that, thanks lex), and Fuel system.

Do you know if the fuel filter was changed at your 100k maintenance? If not, do you know if it has ever been changed?

Ensure your battery is holding a charge, and that your alternator is also charging the battery properly.

Also, connected to the positive terminal of the battery is a plate with a few fuses on it. Make sure none of these are blown (disconnect the terminal first of course).

well it sounds like a misdiagnosis. which would mean now they have to get it right at no cost to you.
