Get the 04? Or Get the 05?
Re: Get the 04? Or Get the 05?
Use the internet to get quotes from multiple dealers in your area. I used Edmunds to start a bidding war between two dealers, which enabled me to get my '04 X with premium and trunk mat for $32,873 (invoice was $32,921). I'm sure I could have done even better, but I got tired of dealing with the phone calls. One of the dealers was particularly nasty. Needless to say, he didn't get my business.
Good luck...

A lot of it depends on how "standard" of car you want.
For myself, I wanted navigation system, which eliminates most models on the lots. Plus willow interior. Plus wood, and no sports suspension.
That, and being only interested in a couple colors, made me happy that I was able to purchase my car last September at about 1/2 way between invoice and MSRP.
And even then, they had to take it in from out of state. (So obviously I ended up paying for having it shipped in).

the savings for going with 04 will definitely be in high 4-5k range. I bought my 03.5 in late august of last year and got 5400 off msrp. I ordered it fully loaded except for body kit. so shop around.
Re: Get the 04? Or Get the 05?
That is the kind of savings I am banking on for the 04', but amazingly enough when I declined their offer for what amounted to $1100 over invoice, and told them they would have to do better than that, they have completely blown me off. Time to go work with another dealership I guess. With over 250 04's on the lots within an hour's drive of here, I am pretty sure I can do better than that! I have read about several others having problems with the salepeople acting pompous, I mean really, I got better treatment at the Mercedes dealership!

I am sure most of you have seen the exterior/interior pics of the 05......but for those who haven't....

Re: Get the 04? Or Get the 05?
Okay, I think I've reached an agonizingly pleasurable decision. I've ruled out the TL. While I think the TL's interior is better than the G's, it doesn't outweigh the fact that the G's exterior is far superior to the TL's. Next hurdle is whether to get an 04 or an 05. After looking at what few pictures there are of the 05, I can honestly say I think I like the looks of hte 04 more. Now it's a matter of getting the car I want with the options I want for the price I want. Well, I've found the car with the options I want. Now the price part. I found a dealer willing to sell at factory invoice, which according to Edmunds is $35,195/MSRP=38,470 including destination charges. Should I be happy with this price or go for more?
Re: Get the 04? Or Get the 05?
I'm not sure what options are in that vehicle...it sounds like it's similar to mine and is fully loaded with Premium, Navi, Sport (although I didn't get Sport package; I made my dealer throw in the Sport wheels/Goodyear GSD tires, rear spoiler and underbody diffusers at n/c...he he ;-), etc. but you should be able to get it for about $4k off that MSRP, especially since the '05's are coming out around Oct. and the dealers really want to get rid of the '04's asap...just work 'em. I actually got mine this past May before the '05 changes were announced, and I'm very happy with the '04.5 after I've read about the minor changes and seen the pics.
Also, you may want to call a couple more dealers and pit one against the other, even if it's a matter of a few hundred $$ to get to around $34k or $34.5k (or if they won't budge below "invoice," make sure they throw in a few extra goodies then ;-) Don't forget, even if they sell it to you for invoice cost or a few hundred over, they still make plenty of $$ from mfgr-dealer incentives; there's always a little room for negotiation!!! ;-)

Are there any more pictures of the '05? I'm curious as to what the new tail lights and rear end looks like. IMHO those wheels are hideous too!
