*Huge Sigh*

I just purchased and 05 6mt with 35k on it in nice condition. I really like the car. I thought I did all me research (CR, Edmunds, etc....) and thought I got a good price/vehicle.

Now, I find this forum and It sounds like I have to start saving $$ for clutches and to start preparing for the possible "oil consumption" battle......

Not to mention I think I WAY overpaid on the car based on what others have mentioned here. (I thought I got a good "Edmunds" price)

I was considering extending the warranty, but I am already thinking of an exit strategy!

This is NOT the experience I was hoping for which sucks as I like the car.

Your warranty will be up this year. It is a great car though.

The clutch will last a long time if you drive normal.
The oil consumption is a problem but a good one. Usually means you get a brand new motor (always good). All you have to do is a consumption test.

It's a good situation IF you've got all the documentation proving you've done oil changes at the recommended service intervals. Without this documentation, you're screwed.

Just make friends with a local shop. You can get receipts generated.

I have actually known several people get the consumption test done without having to prove anything. All depends on the dealership.

you're actually worrying about problems on your car that could potentially happen but haven't? Is the glass always half empty or what?

Whats wrong with the clutch? I have 75,000 miles and my clutch grabs like hell.

True. I just showed my dealer some receipts from walmart for the oil. They didnt' really check how often I did it (I was misplaced a few receipts), although I did log the mileage when I did the oil changes on the receipt.

Do yourself 2 favors:

1. Get the Extended Warranty. It will cover you "in case"
2. Enjoy your car.

I just re-read my own post and it does seem a little whiney!

It was just a little bit of a shocker coming across some of this info. I understand there is no maintenance free vehicles (I have owned a LOT of American cars before) and that there will be costs associated with ownership. I just didn't think that a new engine might be required. (so much for the big research sites!!! )

I appreciate the feedback and vent space! I am sure this will be as valuable a forum for me as it is for others.

Haha. Welcome to the site. I felt the same way too when I got mine. It's an '05 6mt too but had about 40k miles on it. I think it's just cause it's my first used vehicle. Got me feeling paranoid for some reason. What part of Portland are you from?

What's done is done, do what the others have said -- get it checked, get the warranty if it helps you sleep at night and enjoy your car!

try not to focus on what you don't have, and focus on the things you do have. you'll realize that life will be far more enjoyable then worrying about potential worries.

An exit strategy now would be throwing money away. Forget that you overpaid--what's done is done. And a tip for next time--Edmunds value is always on the high side, so aim lower next time. Clutch replacement is a given with any manual tranny car--all depends on how you and the owner before you drove it. I'm at 75K miles and original clutch. I've read these forums about the various issues people have had with their G's too--none of those issues (except compression rods) have ever crept up in the 3 years I've owned this car. Enjoy the car and stop worrying about what might go wrong.

You are only going to hear about the problems here...that's what the forums are usually for. Nobody is really going to post "I drove around today, and nothing broke".

All cars have their problems. Even cars within a "reliable" brand still have problems. Toyota dealerships still have service departments don't they? And to this day, the most reliable vehicle I've ever purchased new has been one of the so called "unreliable domestic POS" i keep reading about.

Enjoy your car, stay alert and on top of maintainence and you should be fine.

What was the point of this thread???

Oh no I bought a car, got ripped off and now it's depreciating? Sounds like what happens anytime you buy a car.
