Paint on non-aero lowers

Has anyone painted their stock lower body sill pieces from the crinkle grey/black finish to body color?
If so, were the results acceptable?
I don't want to lose any winter ground clearance by going aero or aftermarket with a body kit, but I like the look.
thanks!

Re: Paint on non-aero lowers

Don't know what you mean by "crinkle grey/black "
The lower sills on my car were smooth plastic.

I had a shop do the painting for $400 (cdn)
I did the re & re myself. It would have been another $200 for the shop to do the labor.

It really transforms the car.

I had mine done at the dealer prior to pick up over 2 years ago and so far no chipping or cracking at all....

Re: Paint on non-aero lowers

I had mine done a few months ago and haven't had any chips or cracking. I *AM* very careful not to scrape parking blocks to prevent effing up the front.

gdupg35, I'm not a fan of chrome or polished wheels, but your car does really look nice. What are your tire and wheel specs (offset and width's)?

Got to hand it to you guy's that posted with pics, the car's look sooooo much better with the black parts painted. I've got to do it myself someday.

Re: Paint on non-aero lowers

gotta agree with gsedan....i hate the look of the Gs with chromed rims...but yours does look nice...my friend got the g rims chromed and they looked soo ugly...but we didn't say anything cuz he really liked them....another man's trash is another mans treasure...

Edmund....are you some how in association with www.edmunds.com?

BTW LOVE the pics...I was going to get the aero kit because i just wanted the bottom color to match...maybe now i'll just consider it getting painted...i'll talk to the dealer about it when I go car shopping hopefully in a month or 2

Can someone post a pic of the rear? Thanks

Re: Paint on non-aero lowers

Thanks for the compliments guys! I think the chrome really fits the Emerald Mist color - It kinda takes the "old man" element. When I bought the car it had the stock 17's unchromed for only one day. The dealership swapped them out the next day from the chromed version and it made a night and day difference.

I'm running 20x8 Binno Wheels (+42 offset) on 245/35 Nitto NT555 with Eibach springs.

Painting the lowers is probably the best appearance mod I have done yet.

They are aftermarket wheels, not real high end but I really liked the look & got them for a good $ (someone ordered & then backed out).
They are;

ES100 225/45-18 front 245/40-18 rear

Re: Paint on non-aero lowers

How much did the dealer charge you and how long did it take (for those of you that got the plastic parts painted at the dealership)? A rough estimate is fine.
