When I drove the C230, I thought the same thing. But the presence of the C55 is just so much greater that I felt like I completely forgot I was in a small car.

C55!!! I am considering giving up the G35 for a CLS550. The difference from driving my moms S-class to my G35 is unexplainable!

C55 and the C63 was really nice, but felt like the ISF. I would have bought the ISF had it not have been for the sub-par back seats. two males 5'8" @ 150lbs and there isn't any room for a third person. Not only that... the ISF got it's @ss handed to it by the G8 which is 1/2 the price. I couldn't stop laughing.

I love my G35 6MT, the other weekend i took it through kings canyon. plenty of power in every gear, and the handling is better than the 3000GT i owned. I kicked the backend out in a control drift at every turn - just because.

After 50k miles, the only complaint about my 6MT is the ride is a little stiff for my every day driver.

I think it all comes down to affording the maintenance and break-downs.

G35's solid and reliable. AMG's high-maintenance.

I retested a G35 coupe, G35 sedan, and C55 sedan, and ended up buying the C55.

The luxury, power, and overall feel of the C55 was better. Also, the inflated prices that many people and dealerships are asking for their Infiniti's because they start with a "G" is outrageous - the C55 in some respects was far cheaper than some of the cars I saw.

I wouldn't venture to call the 6MT G's "solid" and "reliable" after the OC issue. Having to completely replace an engine in a car, basically the heart of the car, is a pretty big deal.

I also wouldn't venture to call ALL AMG'S high maintenance and high break-down. The high level ones (E, CL, etc) are prone to more issues due to the fact that have more systems (that are more complicated and aren't....well....perfect in the long run). The C55 doesn't have the fancies like air ride suspension and upgraded Comand system that are prone to problems. Also, no supercharger to need to rebuild in the future. For the most part, the C55 seems to be pretty reliable from my research. And as for maintenance costs, I'm not one of those yuppies that now drives a luxury car because I'm rich and like to throw away my money on overpriced oil changes. I'm going to do most of the DIY maintenance myself, as I have with all my previous cars. "Dealer records" and resale value is going to be a myth since the resale value in a few years will be squat anyway. I was going to do the same w/ the G.

Regardless, I'm very happy with my C55.

this may be a day late and a dollar short, but I'll be the only here that would advise against the Benz. But then again, I'm BMW-guy. The G35 handles just as smoothly as the BMW's I used to drive.

But in either case, i think you'll be very satisfied.

Tested an 05 G35 5AT and it seemed to have some nice pickup, so I was impressed. I also went to look at a C55 AMG, and man is that one nice lookin car. A little small in the back, but sure does look awesome. Any opinions, observations, or experiences? Thanks.

05-06 G35 Sedan 6MT:
Pros: Cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain, good 300hp engine, practice my MT skills (I've had AT for 8 years now)
Cons: 6MT engine oil consumption possibility, needs coupe or M 19's

05-06 C55 AMG 5AT:
Pros: One damn fine lookin car, I've always wanted an AMG , more power (370 hp or so), definitely commands presence, is more rare/fine, nicer interior than the G
Cons: A little small on the inside (rear; the front leg and arm space is actually pretty roomy), possibly expensive to maintain, 20 mpg hwy (vs. 25 hwy G)

What did u end up getting?

G35: Yeah its only 300hp, but there are endless FI options for bigger power. If your into mods this is the way to go.
-Cheaper to maintain reliable, I have never been to the dealer with mine, no issues and i am SC'd

My wife drives a white/blk (hard to find)...
CLK55 (same as the C55 just 2dr, NA 5.4L V8 quad exhaust)
AMG's are awesome....when they run! We have definately used the warranty for computer issues with the command nav unit. All good now.
They are great cars, by no means economical, and make no $ sense at all. Its not about reliability or any of that stuff.
The C55 and CLk55's are not tuner cars really, pretty much stay stock, unless you want to spend $20k on renntech parts.

However, if you like to tinker with stuff, get the V8 kompressor models E55, CLS55, etc. lots of fun aftermarket stuff. The **63 series comes with the better trans though

Cohen, the ride in a BMW is nice, but I sure didn't want to be another dbag 3-series driver. I swear I see more 3's on the roads than civics and accords, and that's something I definitely didn't want.

GTfive, I ended up getting the C55. I've heard of the Comand navi reprogramming issues. Mine didn't come with navi, so I should be ok there . As for modding, not going to. This car is incredible as is and any modding imo would be a waste of money. As for the $ sense, that's why I bought used. The depreciation is killer for the original owner. And excellent for the next
