Re: Stock 6MT Sedan vs Stock WRX

Hello, I'm new to the board and the world of g35's This is actually my first post...and most appropriate for me. =)
I have a wrx wgn and my wife has a wrx sdn 4eat. We are trading in her sdn for the g35x...which should be in this week. Can't wait!!
I've only driven the g35x so far. But this is what i think.
on paper. the stock mt wrx has a slightly better 0-60 primarily due to the awd launches
1/4 times are pretty much similiar.
launching a wrx properly at the track is far from the "dropping the clutch" misconception. a 4-5k slip yields very good 60ft times
on a stock wrx...the turbo and awd....does hurt us top end and at higher speeds....so on the highway....or anytime above 3rd gear....i think g35 will pull away....
to put awd drivetrain loss on the wrx into perspective. It's said to be ~30% drivetrain loss. Stock wrx 227hp dyno's in around 170hp only. My wgn is modded(stage2). And dyno'd in at 222whp....following the 30% loss it should be just under 290hp. I still have stock turbo....but does not die really top end anymore. This being said i have pulled from numerous e36 M3's from a 40-60roll up until 100+

In the end....stock for stock.....all driver, higher speeds on the highway....g35 will pull away

"And then blow the motor up after a while. Yea it is a bargain. In the real world (the world where you don't beat on your car at every stoplight and stop sign the WRX is way overrated, it is slow, geared really tall, and cheap inside. "

Thats not at all true, I'm afraid--the wrx will handle WAYYY more power than you would get from a basic mod. And in the real world, if you know how to drive it, its not at all hard to get great performance from a wrx. Yes, the interior is basic (though the G interior doesn't exactly get rave reviews...) but first and foremost the wrx is intended to provide excellent performance at a bargain price, which it does admirably. If your priority is image over performance or something that is fine--that is certainly a valid personal preference--but you will dismiss the wrx on a performance level at your own risk of humiliation.

Yea those WRX's are no joke.. Like I said before, my friend picked up a ***. spec motor from japan (Sti) and dropped it in his 2.5 rs which is approx 500 lbs lighter, and it will EATTTT modded sti's with ease. The gearing just isnt as good though, he couldnt slap the sti's 6 speed in, he went with a diff. one I think, I dunno.

Correct, if done right. I have seen dozens of WRX motors that blew up due to MBC's. If you go the cheap route it costs more in the long run. Then again that applies to most things!
