Stock 6MT Sedan vs Stock WRX
Re: Stock 6MT Sedan vs Stock WRX
You should win, but it's a driver's race with these two cars. The WRX is a manual I assume...if an auto, no contest, if it's a 5 spd...who ever shifts betters wins.

Re: Stock 6MT Sedan vs Stock WRX
Keep in mind the WRX is a launch it like you stole it car. From 5 to 60 takes a painful 7.5 seconds! So there you go.

Re: Stock 6MT Sedan vs Stock WRX
The WRX will take a G35 off the launch easily if the G35 driver doesnt know how to launch, although up to 60 you might be behind but the WRX's turbo dies in the upper MPH range, I raced a modded WRX who was stick. We went from a roll and were dead even till about 85 and then I started pulling pretty hard...

Yes it's a driver's race...but shshhhh don't tell him that for about $1500 (A Down Pipe, Exhaust and something else I can't think of right now...maybe a blow off valve...) and he will be smiling to the tune of 13.5 or below. aghhhh to have an OEM turbo....

Re: Stock 6MT Sedan vs Stock WRX
You should win unless he is willing to abuse his car on the launch. (Abuse=engine WOT bouncing off rev limiter and dump clutch) If he does launch in this manner, my guess is you will probably be owned 0-60 but might catch up with him by the 1/4.

i raced both a stock and a modded WRX before. The stock i beat no problem. We were at it from 0-60 like everyone else said, but then i was GOOOONE. Then my friend has a modded WRX with a "Vishnu Package" which supposidly gives up like 50hp, anyways...we went at it all the way to the 100 range, but i was ahead by like 1 car length, then we kinda had to slow down cuz of traffic. But i think you should win. Launch hard and shift fast. Good luck!

Actually, no, thats just a common urban legend, and no competent wrx owner is going to launch like that. He may well rev to 3500 or 4000, then slip the clutch in (not at all the same as a "dump") and launch hard. Nothing is going to beat an awd launch, and if he's at all competent he is going to jump out in front. The G coupe has more hp, though, and it is possible you might catch him by the quarter, though the two pretty much have identical 1/4 times. So he'll have the advantage off the line, but if you're really good you have the possibility of catching him again around the 1/4 mark. As others have said, it will be too close to call and mainly dependent on driver skill.

Re: Stock 6MT Sedan vs Stock WRX
I've driven both and I would have to say the G would do better than a stock WRX..
But on the other hand if you compared it to an STi I would say the other way around.
(BTW I have an 04 STi and know the difference)

Re: Stock 6MT Sedan vs Stock WRX
I I got a ride in my friends 2.5 RS with an Sti motor dropped in it, and all I have to say is WOW!!!! It blew my mind, its 500 lbs lighter than an sti, same tranny upgrade and a ***. Spec engine with moire HP and Torque in it. It is a beast, wow. But anyway those stock WRX's are pretty slow, to keep up with our 6 speeds ont he highway they need to be modded. Martin

Well, this particular scoobie owner might not have been "competent" (I'd agree with you there) but I do have a video on my computer of a modified WRX doing just that...twice...and beating what is represented to be a Z06 in the process both times!

*sigh* yeah, sadly, I am quite sure there are any number of wrx owners out there who DO do redline launches and think they are getting the most out of them--but its really not necessary, not actually the best launch, and they are the morons that give the wrx's any bad name they get and the rep for going through transmissions or clutch's. But any of the owners I know who would see that would automatically be dropping them into the non-enthusiast category who doesn't really know what they are doing.
The thing w/ the wrx too is that it is just ridiculously cheap and easy to mod to insane speeds. A simple $40 boost controller will put one into the 13's. (I have seen more than one stock wrx do a 14 even in the 1/4, which means getting into the 13's is not at all far away)
Anyway, like i said, its really going to be up to the driver. If its a competent G35 driver, it should literally be neck and neck and too close to call at the quarter mile mark. I will say that in general it is probably harder for a G35 driver to get the best possible launch than for a wrx owner, because as mentioned even a total moron can rev high and punch it on a wrx and still get a killer launch. At higher speeds on the highway or something, the G should have the advantage.

And then blow the motor up after a while. Yea it is a bargain. In the real world (the world where you don't beat on your car at every stoplight and stop sign the WRX is way overrated, it is slow, geared really tall, and cheap inside.
In short it is what the Mustang and Camaro were in the 80's cheap and fast if driven hard. Can't argue against the bang for the buck thing, I have done it before. The G35 is a whole different animal - though I am less than impressed with the interior.
Oh, and there have been several threads about or inferring street racing recently. Street racing is a bad thing! If you want to know how fast your car is go to the track, any track. A drag strip, a road course, or a parking lot autocross! That is where the real rubber meets the road so to speak! Happy Sunday!!

Re: Stock 6MT Sedan vs Stock WRX
But also you have to remeber you can get those WRX and Sti engine with easy and they are cheap as hell too!!! My friend just picked up a *** Spec Sti engine for 4k, brand new.. And most of all the subie owners stick together and even work at subaru, or at least in NY. They all hook each other up and stuff is so cheap for them, thats why no one really cares witht he launching and everything I guess.
