Finally finished my Black Pillar project

This was a quick mod that I drew out for a long time. I did the rear just over a year ago. I did the fronts last week and the sides today. Right now I'm working on a few projects at the same time
Budget mods, ftw!

Here is the rear, which is wrapped in Felt.

Here are the sides, painted. I would have painted the lowers, but I ran out of paint. That will be a project for a later date.

Here is the front wrapped in a different material. This material is closer in texture and feel to the roof lining. I'll probably re-wrap the rear ones in this one.

That looks nice!

I always wondered why Infiniti went with the same pillars and roof as the Stone interior rather than doing everything in black? You'd think an all black interior would look more appealing??

You going to change the headliner color down the road?

Why the spray paint instead of wrapping them too?

I always though it was weird as well. I guess they didn't want it to be too dark
I don't think I'm going to go through the hassle of taking out the headliner. I've thought about it, but on top of the hassle I don't think my material is wide enough to go from end to end. I bought the stuff here in Japan so I don't even know what it is called

I thought about wrapping it, but I don't think there is enough clearance on the belt slider and the SRS airbag clip. Plus, I wanted to see what it would look like painted. Personally I like it.

The lighter colors of the pillars and roof liner give the car a much more open "feel". With everything black, the interior will feel smaller, more closed in, more restricted. That's why you won't find a completely black interior in most new cars from the factory. It's really just a cheap trick to make you feel like the car's interior is more spacious than it really is.

looks really good Maybe you'll find some material for the headliner too...

I also think its odd that all are tan - I realize it makes it "look" roomier - but this car is pretty big inside, so I dont think its an issue... I'm having mine wrapped in black.

-yeah, i wouldnt do the roof, simply because of the hassle of hanging a headliner... NEVER want to do that again.
- the felt wrapping looks good, although i'd take off that whole b pillar and spray it, simply because several years of use make it much more faded than the top piece... just my .02
- also, just curious, did you paint that seatbelt piece WHITE?

I read about the whole perception thing before. I noticed other luxury cars do the same thing.

As far as the headliner goes, if I decide to do it, I'll just sew a few pieces together. I'll sew it on the inner side so you wouldn't even see the thread

No, that is the stock color. I'll probably paint those when I paint the lowers. (which aren't faded, that is the regular color )

Nice job!!! that looks very very good!!

if you wanted to, you can even paint the heigh adjustment part......it's the seatbelt holder that's impossible to paint without actually cutting the belts.

here is mine for reference:

G Sedan, thank you for the info. I plan on pulling it all apart and hitting up the rest of the components when I have more time. It was a last minute mod decision on Sunday afternoon. Didn't really have time dedicated to pull the whole seatbelt assy apart (I'll have to do that to paint the hook, If I can't paint the hook, then I won't paint any of that section). I'm really glad I didn't start it, because I ran out of paint (dooh). Yours looks good, but I think you should have used a matte paint on it because of the wrap that you used. With your slider/SRS badge being the only parts that are shiny it looks a little tacky (at least IMHO). Overall it looks like a clean job, especially with the roof liner taken care of.

BTW, your seats are awesome
