To keep from typing a lot. Quaker State and Penzoil are two of the worst oils there are. You can ad the Mobile 1 right behind them. None of them are a true synthetic. All poor base stocks used. At one time Mobile 1 was a great oil. Today they are just another one on the shelf. Valvoline has them all beat.
Don't be fooled by the marketing. The new Mobile 1 is a waist of money.

Amsoil, Royal Purple and Redline are all great too. Some of the best in fact. Just a waist of money for a street motor though. Just like the high end oils commonly found from over seas. Great oil but nothing that is going to make enough of a difference for the trouble and price difference to get.

Its easy to get sucked into marketing and there are many, many people that have from Mobile 1 and Castrol. Do a quick search on the net and you will find that Valvoline, German Catrol and Rotella which is a pain to get are all much better oils. For the average person any oil is going to be fine but if you plan to keep the car piece of mind is nice and using a quality oil can go a long ways.

Best line from that thread:

Oil is Oil. It is one of the most tested substances on earth. How many cars do you see running past 200k miles when someone changes the oil on a regular schedule?! The point is, if you change your oil on a regular basis it doesnt matter what you use.

I am going with Castrol now since I read that thread. Before I was going to buy M1.

I havent' seen any UOAs for valvoline but Penzoil Platinum has tested very well against all other grpIII synthetics out there.
