is Homelink able to learn codes from another vehicle ?

If my other car's homelink is already programmed with my Stanley garage opener, can I have my G35's homelink learn the code thru another vehicle side by side ?

The manual says its gotta be within 2-5 inches, obviously there is no way I can park both cars that close to each other, any idea ?

The G35 was programmed succesfully when I first purchased the car thru the original Stanley remote control, unfortunately I lost the original control, and I accidentally reset the homelink.

Anyone tried having the homelink picking up the codes thru another vehicle's homelink instead of thru the remote control ?

Thanks

You should be able to access the controls on the Stanely opener itself and redo your homelink

You mean without the hand held controller ?
I no longer have the original Stanley hand help controller, I have this universal controller but it is not compatiable with Homelink, so I am thinking if my G35's homelink will be able to pick up and learn the signal thru another vehicle side by side, as if I am treating another vehicle's homelink as the hand held controller........

thanks again

The box that's attached to the opener itself. That should have the same set of controls the hand held did?

that wouldnt be the way I'd do it, even if it does work. (which i doubt).

Go get a replacement remote made for your garage door opener, then you reset the code and then hook up your new remote, and your home links.

you "lost" your garage door openers, are you 100% sure no one jacked it and will use it to open your garage when you're not home and jack you?

Thank you for the cautious advise, actually I havent seen that original remote controller for the past 5 years. The garage opener I have is an old Stanley brand back in the 90's which may not be easy to locate the original replacement controller, there are many universal controllers out there which I can use and works, but the homelink is unable to pick up and learn the codes thru those none-original hand held controller.

hmmmm, taht would pose to be a problem. i guess the best bet is to either locate a stanley (ebay or something) or try parking the cars as close as possible and try it out lol

I know this cant be true as I programed my Homelink for 2 different garages with 2 universal remotes. I think your problem could be due to the age of the opener. Old opener have a series of tabs you move up and down to make the code, while new ones work with infrared. If you have the old tab type I would think that it would never be compatible with any Homelink. Just my thoughts and experiences (I could be wrong).

I was trying to figure that out too a few months ago as I purchased my car used, without an owners manual. I found a few instructional videos on Youtube which made it pretty easy. Hope that helps!

Just an update, I was able to purchase an universal remote control from Home Depot, got it set up with my garage opener, was then able to have Homelink pick up the code accordingly thru the remote control, and for those who are wondering, no you can not program the homelink thru another vehicle's homelink, it must be thru a hand held controller, so I will be returning the remote control back to Home Depot shortly
