Help choosing navigation system

I'm considering buying a navigation system for my 2006 g36x which currently doesn't have one. When I started looking online, the price difference and the variety out there is so big. I'm wondering if someone can help me out with some advice or pointers. Will everything be included in the navigation system I buy? Or will I have to buy other parts/cables? Is this something I can do by myself or do I have to take it to a professional? Do I need an antenna? Can anyone help me out?

Are you looking to buy an indash replacement for your OEM radio, or are you looking to buy a portable unit that mounts on your dash/windshield? I personally have a Garmin Nuvi unit which has been pretty decent, but it certainly isn't as nice as having a factory unit or double din headunit with Navi! I just can't justify the cost (headunit, double din kit, cables, etc) for the amount of times I acutally use my Garmin.

Ya I agree with Silver sedan. It might look sexier with a navi replacing the OEM radio. Id rather get a garmin as well. For the amount you use it is not worth the price just to make it look better. Go with a garmin

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
Nuvi FTW. Mine was less than $100 and it calculates gas mileage

i have the tom tom go 300 and i love it, easy to use, i have it in the pocket above the radio and it fits perfect, i'd rather have it like that cuz i have a double din playing DVDS so i can have the gps and the dvd playing both at the same time

I am using a Garmin Nuvi 650 with the Garmin dash mount sandbag in the cubbyhole above the radio and it looks like it was made for it - 4.3" screen, etc. - If you get the newer Garmins or the 660 you also get blue tooth, traffic alerts, etc.

yeah I got a garmin as well. I intergrated it into the cubby hole. Looks great and best part about it is that it closes so it can hide away when parked. Works great and gets great signal. You just need some good 3m velcro attached to the cubby door and the back of the garmin (put it on the fold away antenna) and it leans on the lip of the cubby. Fits perfect and looks great. It's wired behind the stereo under the center conole and into the middle arm rest console where it is plugged into the 12v plug so it stays charged.

It's a good time to consider doing everything at once, but most of the uber-units are a bit complicated or compromise in the wrong places.

The Pioneer AVIC-Z110 looks very, very good right now though. Voice control of Nav, and iPod.

Don't waste your money putting double-din in and put a mediocre nav unit in, go for something nice and worth keeping for years, or get a good dash unit.

I'm looking at the Garmin Nuvi 755t. Has anyone tried to fit this in the cubby area like the picture above?

Thanks,

Ian
