Tire Question

So the rears on my car are starting to go a little bit, and I'd like to replace them. I currently have the OEM Bridgestone Turanzas, which are 235-45-18 and seem to do ok. I want to replace the rears for under $125 a tire, but because I'm driving the car to school, I want a slightly meatier tire. Can I buy a set of 245-45-18's and will they fit fine on the car? Will it matter that the OE Turanzas are up front? Does anyone have any good recommendations for tires with decent treadwear? I won't be driving the car in anything below 40 degree weather, so summer tires only, no all-season or winter junk!

Thanks a bunch

I assume you have the sport 18s which are 7.5 inches wide. 245s are not technically recommended for anything under 8 inches wide but alot of people run them on here without any issues I believe. If you are RWD (assuming so), yes can run a staggared setup. You will have more tire choices with 245/45 or 245/40 over the 235/45 but as a result your spedometer/odometer will be off alittle.

The prices from tirerack are reasonable and the research tool is very good.

The recommended wheel width range for a 245/45 is 7.5"-9", so you can run them no problem. There isn't a very good selection of tires in 235/45, but if you're only looking to spend $125, you have some options. The General Exclaim UHP and Kumho SPT's are right around $125 in that size. I wouldn't run the 245/40's because they're too small IMO. 245/45 is what I'm running, and the selection is awesome. Tire Rack has several makes in 245/45 on sale right now for $100-$110 per tire. And you won't have a problem with running a slightly smaller tire up front or with the speedo (it will only be off by about 1.6%).

Thank you very much for the advice, you've cleared up everything perfectly, how can I repay you for your good advice?
