Wow. Did you cover everything else in the engine? I wouldn't try that with the intake runners being open right into the engine there. I used towel to cover the intake runners cuz i was scared I was gonna drop something into one of them.

I think he's messing with you guys... didnt you notice he said he "painted them black" why would you paint a black part black? and if he posts pics how are you gonna know if they were painted or not?

Oh I must of painted something else, is 2 big rusted metal pieces on each side under the engine cover, I thought those were the valve covers. I'll post pictures in 2 hours as soon as I get home

the VC's are not metal...very plastic.

the metal pieces under the engine cover are the plenum

Oh true oopss, yea what I painted was the parts of the plenum that stick out like a sore thumb when the engine cover is on, basically is all black around the engine

no part of the plenum sticks out of the engine cover... and the plenum wont rust... did you paint the heat shields over the headers? those are metal and down next to the block (which I guess could be why you thought they were valve covers?)

In any event you would have had to remove a bunch of stuff to paint them - did you have to take the upper and lower plenum off to paint whatever you did?

it wasnt rusted but it was regular gray faded metal, all i removed was the engine cover to paint this part, this is the part i painted where the blue arrows are pointing at

ahh... now I see why you were confused... those are the valve timing control covers - part of the timing cover...

This thread is about the rocker covers (commonly referred to as valve covers) - down where your spark plugs are...
