New owner seeking wisdom on maintenance...
Just picked up my 06 from CarMax. I've owned quite a few vehicles in my time and I have to say that this car is NAILS! It's one of the few cars that I look forward to driving every day. That being said, I'm an absolute maintenance **** when it comes to my vehicles. Like major OCD! One owner with 53k miles on it and it's been in Phoenix, AZ since it was born.
My question is what maintenance (if any) should I do at 53k? Especially since I have no way of knowing what was done to it previously...

try to get maintenance records from Infiniti. If the PO took it to Infiniti for maintenance and there is a record of it you should just follow your maintenance schedule from there. If there is no maintenance history available then I would change the cabin filter, oil, and drain and fill all the fluids.
If you don't know what the previous owner done Maintenance wise i would go for it.
Now since were on the same topic i have a 03 coupe. purchased around 2 years ago with 32k miles. now 2 years went by. I just hit the 50k mile mark. do i need any major service?

But I'd definitely change oil, inspect/top off all fluids, which Carmax hopefully should have done already. 60K is approaching which is a big service interval. I'd recommend changing the coolant, brake fluid, transmission fluid, and differential fluid around that time.
You shouldn't need much until 60k. Up until then it's typical stuff- oil and filter, air filter, in-cabin filter, checking levels of all fluids, inspecting brakes, susp. parts, and belts.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods

Congrats as well. I'm coming up on 60,000 and do most of the maintenance myself. You'll save a ton of money this way and have the total satisfaction of knowing it was done correctly.
Watch out for the mod bug though. It's a b!tch!!

I agree with the above - change the oil/filter - check air filter, brake fluid, it should be clear, anit-freeze clean. After that you know what your'e working with. If anything, peace of mind and you have a baseline to start with. I drive my car very little (2004 with 11,800) and I change my oil/filter every 3 months, checking the other fluids. Check that you have a good spare tire. I would also wax the car - use Dawn soap to strip the old wax then wax - I use 3 coats of Zaino on the paint, Aerospace 303 on the dash, tires and gaskets, etc, etc. (I know, that's another forum).

Got the maintenance history and I'm real happy with what I saw. Everything has been done by the book, which doens't surprise me since it was a leased. Thanks for the tips, I think I have my plan for the 60k service!
