Help car on jack stands till fixed (BRAKE PROBLEM)

Was doing full brake job on wife's 2004 G35X and on the rear passenger side the bottom caliber bolt broke off in the caliber bracket...

Very important to lube those during every brake job, i have a feeling the last owner just use to undo the top, throw in new pads, and that's it.

Anyways called up dealer, and they don't sell just the bracket, i have to buy the whole caliper which is $210.

Called a few junk yards and they don't have any g35's. Do we share brakes with any other Nissan cars. This is the sedan, so i know the coupe might with the 350z, but this is the sedan.

Don't know if i have any other options, found some calibers on line for cheaper, but without the brackets.

Talked to a guy at work, and he said he might be able to drill it out, but the new pin might not slide right.

If you guys can think of anything let me know.

can you take pix of the part you are talking about?

I remember breaking off a bolt doing the front brake.. took it to Home Depot, the guys at the machine shop there drill the broken piece out for me.. i was so thankful... (for free too!) ... the new bolt was $6 from the dealer.. (I used a temp bolt from ACE hardware though for awhile)

Were you tightening the bolt or loosening it when it broke?

Those bolts don't require alot of torque. Sounds like whomever did the pads last might of overtightened them.

how does one break that bolt, its a rather decent sized bolt, Most people stripp the heads rather then breaking the bolt.

Please show a picture.

broke the caliper slide bolt or the bolt that secures the caliper to the knuckle?

drilling it out is always an option

If it's the larger bolt that secures it to the spindle, he will need the bracket off an 05 or 06 caliper.

The 03/04 has smaller rear brakes so your brackets would put the caliper too close in. Sorry guys.

OP, i'm assuming this is the bracket you are taling about? The larger bolt? Is the bracket off the car? You could always drill it out. Take it to a local machine shop and ask them to remove it for you. A good machinist should be able to.

Probably the caliper slide bolt that allows you to rotate the piston assembly up to change the pads. The little bots with the accordian dust covers. I'd guess he needs a new caliper assembly because the broken bolt is still in the main caliper assembly.

But I'd try drilling it out CAREFULLY. You can usually just drill out a tiny hole first. Then using larger and larger drill bits, make the hole bigger. But don't drill to the bolt size or else you'll ruin the threads. Once the hole gets big enough, the broken portion will just uncrew itself or you can use a reverse drill bit to undo it. Home Depot or an auto store will have these rever drill bits that remove broken bolts. Worth a try anyway.

But if you do need a caliper, I'm pretty sure all G35s/350zs up to 04 have the same smaller rear caliper. (non brembo).

That's the bolt I'm assuming that got snapped. There is no need to remove the bracket to do a pad replacement otherwise.

He has an 04x. Did the 05/06 sedans have the same brake setup as an 04x? T

All G35X from 05 and ealier still had the smaller brake package that the 03-04s had. The G35s and 350z got larger non brembo brakes in 05 while the AWD versions didn't get upgraded until 06

I'm sorry. For some reason when i read it i thought he had a 06x.

04X has the same brakes as 03/04's and 05x.

If he snapped the 17mm or 19mm caliper bolt, he'd need a new spindle assembly and not just a new caliper right? He'd also be the incredible hulk.
