So to prefix this I live in Colorado. 5280ft in the air so altitude makes a big difference in performance. Generally we are a full second slower than the same car at sea level.

Anyway last year I took my bone stock 03.5 sedan auto to the drag strip and managed to do a best of 16.2 et at 86mph in the 1/4. The temps were somewhere around 74 degrees.

Between this time I have added a 5/8 spacer, z-tube, and a k&n filter. Along with normal oil changes and maintenance. The last few times I've been to the track it has been 95 degrees plus and the car has averaged times between 16.6 and 16.7et at 85mph.

When racing I turn the vdc off and put the car into 5th on the autostick and let it do all the shifting. (this has yielded the best times in all my testing). There was a kid with an 04 6mt sedan that managed to run a 16.0 flat. I didn't catch his mph but looking at the two cars mine seemed to be in better condition. Is something wrong with my car or is it just the heat affecting it? Also for all the runs I have been on premium 91 oct gas.

I'm thinking about my next mod being an esu reflash by technosquare or osiris and maybe a coup mid pipe or something of that nature as most exhaust mods up here dont make a big difference.

From what I have read over the post about aftermarket parts doing nothing everyone seems to come up with the same solution. A proper tune, I guess due to allowing a more abundant air volume into your plenum your car has to adjust to the change and can only properly do with with a proper tune. Don't quote this I really do not have much knowledge other then the compliment of threads I have read over. Hope this helps a little.

 

Spacer, z-tube and filter may only put you in the same power range as a stock 6MT. The autos seem to run a good 10whp under the 6MT. Plus the 6MT has shorter gearing.

 

So the car is probably fine, its just gearing and perhaps an ecu tune would help?

So would I really see a difference with the ecu tune? My issue is I could really only mail my ecu in to get a generic tune as there aren't any Infiniti/Nissan ecu tuners around town. I talked to a few shops and there just isn't the demand.

I think you should get more mods before getting a tune, unless you want it that badly.

Get yourself a full catback exhaust, HFC, and an intake. Then get a tune.

 

Depending on the ECU you have, Osiris might not be an option.

HFC and cat-back exhaust will make a noticeable difference. There are lots of things you can do, regardless of altitude that will help.

 

I have a 5/16 plenum spacer, Z-tube, Stillen grounding kit and HKS exhaust (not that I think it adds reasonable hp, more for sound), and the best time I ran the G on the 1/4 mile is 15.4 sec. At that time though, I had 1/2 tank of gas and 100 lb of unnecessary crap in the trunk, so I'm sure my car is capable of doing better than 15.4.

 

I would say so too.

I ran a 14.7 in my AWD X bone stock with no modifications at all. Full tank of gas and 50 pounds of tools in the trunk too. I'd like to think i could do better too

wow man i feel bad for you. But you're not alone, all NA cars are greatly effected by the elevation. My best time was a 14.500 @ 96.44 MPH with a DA of -196'. The 1st gen G35 should be easily in the 14s at sea level. 05+ revups can do low 14s with a good driver (obviously in a lower elevation)

Also food for thought is here in Colorado a lot of the newer model Mustang Gts and the newest model Camaro are in the high 15s and low 16s depending on the driver.

I've done a 14.32@97.7mph with a Z-tube in my 03 5AT sedan. The conditions were ~180' DA (track is at 1,000'). The fastest I've seen for a stock 5AT sedan is a 14.2@97mph on a sea level FL track in the winter. The fastest 6MT I know of was a 13.8@101mph up in Canada in the fall. I'm convinced the air in Canada is 15% nitrous. Everything up there runs insane times

Elevation and density altitude conditions have a huge impact on ET/MPH. Expect to be about .1 and .8mph slower for every 10 degree increase in temp over 50 degrees. Then there's the elevation issue. 5000' feet is sucking out a solid 1 seconds and 8mph. This is why I'd never own an NA car in an area over 2500'. Turbos aren't remotely as influenced by elevation since they create thier own atmosphere.

You need to manually shift the 2-3 and hold 3rd the entire run. Letting the tranny do it's own thing will slow you down by .2 to .3 seconds and about 2mph. In the RWD 5AT G, 3rd is good to 101mph. Believe me, I've run as fast as 99.9mph in the 1/4 and I tapped the 3rd gear limiter right at the finish.
