i hate the all-black dash on the '04, that's a deal breaker for me. the '05 has a nicer package. so out of those two , assuming A1 mechanical etc, the '05 wins.
although if you want RWD, i would personally look for an '05 sport package. those come with a nice wheel/tire package & all the Premium goodies.

I like my 04, though the 05 had some new features (mp3 CD support?) that would be nice. Since I have the willow interior, I don't have the all black dash.
For interior looks, I guess not wanting a black interior affects my feelings about the 05 and later. Every loaner I've had has had the black interior, and didn't have wood, so felt colder.

I like my 04, at the time when I bought mine the 05s were about $5K more
basically everyone is right, you get a newer interior and little upgrades
I didnt get the premium because I dont like bose "No high,no mids,no lows....must be bose"
I never have liked bose in any car.
Also it can be tricky to bypass and such, I know there are ways around it but I didnt want to mess with it.
The only thing i wish I had were the gauges but thats not a huge thing for me.

one difference I first noticed between the '04 and '05 is that the '05 can play MP3 CDs (as KevinK mentioned). but if you plan on installing an aftermarket navigation system, then that will become a moot point (the money you would save on the cost of the car could go to getting one installed)
according to the carfax report for the '04, it has already had 2 owners
also, check-out cars.com, there are lot of others I noticed within 100 miles of your zip code....

2005 refresh
2006 Infiniti G35 coupe
2006 Infiniti G35 sedan
The G35 was refreshed inside and out in 2005. The interior was given sportier gauges with better backlighting and higher quality trim and *****. Genuine aluminum trim replaces "tinted" interior trim, and the dash and center console layout were revised. Rosewood trim becomes available as a package on the 2005 models. MP3/WMA playback was added to the now standard 6 disc in-dash CD player, and the cassette player was removed. Brembo brakes were removed for the 2005 and 2006 models, and the brakes were redesigned with larger discs and a different caliper design. This was partly in response to a number of complaints about the previous years' brakes, which included a class action lawsuit filed in California related to premature wear on 2003-2004 models[4][5]. A sport-tuned suspension package was standard on all six-speed manual equipped models, which included a viscous limited slip differential and the higher output VQ35de "Rev-UP" engine. The 2006 models received minor updates. On the exterior there were new headlights, taillights, spoiler, sport side sills, and front bumper.[6] Bluetooth capability was added to the interior for hands-free phone use. Rear active steering was an option for the '06 coupe.
