Noise

I just bought a G35 sedan. Love it!!! Anyways, when I initially start driving, I here like a grinding noise like something is opening/closing then its gone. Any ideas??? Is it like a air vent opening???

Re: Noise

It's the ABS like Red says, some cars do it and some don't just depends on the manufacturer. Safe driving.

Re: Noise

I don't know if the sound of the ABS self-test could be described as a grinding. I know that I, as well as some others on this site, have described the self test as more of a "sproing" noise. Maybe it's something else?

Re: Noise

Sounds like the ABS to me. I would describe mine as grinding. It happens when you first hit about 7mph or so. If you have an incline that you can coast down with your foot on the brake, you should feel it in the pedal at the same time you hear the noise. It's just the system doing a self-check.

Re: Noise

The noise you are hearing is a VDC system self-test. An explanation can be found in the owner's manual if you open it and read. I am surprised you have not read the book yet. When I bought my car that was the first thing I read.

Re: Noise

ABS/VDC, all checked at once. It's pulsing the brakes.

Bah! Books are only for people that can't make things work with a hammer! I'm guilty as charged. I look to the manual for things that I find interesting. I probably will never change.

Re: Noise

Gotta be the ABS diagnostic. It sounds like a "sproing"/rattle after starting the car and accelerating.

Nothing to worry about.
