Trailer Hitch

Well here is my sad story. I bought my g35x back in March and one thing I did not research was the ability to attach a trailer hitch. I am in the process (now on hold...heh) of buying a wave runner. The reason it is on hold is the apparent lack of hitches that fit the G35. Does anyone know if there are some coming down the product pipeline with any real time frames. Or does anyone have any experience with custom attached hitches (if so any knowledge of companies around the Chicago area for installaton would be phenomenal). My fingers are crossed that this hitch issue is not going to stop my new water toy purchase!!!

Re: Trailer Hitch

There is a post few weeks ago from one of the member here with customer hitch for towing their Jet Ski. Try to do a search, or just wait for someone to find it.

Re: Trailer Hitch

Thanks for the pics and the link to the other messages about this issue. I am really hesitant on letting someone start welding under my new car...heh. I have gotten a response from Etrailer.com that they expect a hitch to be released this fall for the G35. For now I think I am going to bank on that and come up a short term solution (i.e. borrow my buddies hitch enabled ride) to get the wave runner to the water for the balance of the summer (fall's just around the corner here in Chi-town). Again thanks for the response.

Re: Trailer Hitch

FYI, places told me that in last year as well. I still got the car, and couldn't wait.

Re: Trailer Hitch

Yep, next spring I may be doing the custom weld thing if no one actually comes out with a hitch. I might feel better about by then...I still haven't got my first ding yet (knock on wood), lol.

[A repost from Freshalloy.com]

My hitch was installed today (Tues). I decided to go with the shop that charged $65/hr and am very glad I did for the install only took 1.5 hrs. Pics are at http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthre...c=1&PHPSESSID=.

I'm very happy with the results. The cutout in the bumper could've been neater but no biggie. I may take care of it later with some sandpaper.

You'll see that my '03 sedan is ivory pearl with the graphite colored trim along the bottom. I think this makes the hitch not stand out as much as it would on the newer models that are monotone colored, with the exception of black of course.

It looks like a Bumper Hitch is finally available for the G Sedan.

A Few Questions?
1. How many holes do you have to drill? Or does it use pre-existing holes that already exist on the car, looks like the holes under the wheel wheel might already be there.

2. Does the hitch interfere with the operation of the energy absorbing rear bumper? Does this rear bumper have a piston set up to absorb energy or does it just Styrofoam?

3. How tough is it to rig up the wiring for the lights?

Any-other advice/info (other than don't do it) would be appreciated.

Not too hard to install

I got one of these hitches and installed it myself. I tried to follow the instructions, but had to loosen the right end of the bumper facia to be able to finish the job. In retrospect I would have removed the entire facia first. It would have taken a while (maybe 30-45 min.) since you have to loosen the trunk liner to get to the taillight assembly nuts, remove the taillights to get to some of the facia nuts, and then remove the remaining facia nuts. Not horribly complicated, just tedious. The upside is that this would have given easy access to the underside of the bumper (where you have to drill a couple of 1/2 inch holes) and the open right end (through which you have to fish a wire that pulls the bolts into place). BTW, the fish wire in the kit was too short and I had to add length with some 12 volt electrical wire I had on hand. It took all morning, but it is an elegant solution to Class 1 towing needs.
