If you are referring to the manual shift mode of the auto,then the answer varies. Many state that the computer knows best when to shift but a few claim they know best.

Shifting in Drive, my dragstrip times were quick and consistent. When manual shifting, I got both my best and worst times !!!
Manual shifting was worth a solid tenth in the quarter mile, or about one car length or so.
Please be mindful that this gain was only by shifting at exactly the right split-second so as to not bounce off the rev limiter, which would mitigate any potential gains.
I have NEVER been able to duplicate my fastest times by leaving it in Drive.........
