03 G35 with 110k miles...

I am new to this forum and have questions, here i am looking at 2003 g35 sedan with 110k miles on it. 2 previous owners, clean/clear title, no accidents. its white/tan with navigation. what is it worth? i felt good driving my older lexus with over 125k miles til i sold it, gave me no problems and never left me stranded. how dependable are these g35? i put around 25k miles a year, if the price is right should i grab this one? and do these have timing belt or timing chain? any common problems these g35 have?

thanks,
Tae

My own opinion I think its fine, I have an 03 sedan with 96xxx on it and mine is slightly modified and it's never given me any problems at all.

If you drive 25,000 miles a year, I'd buy a G with way less miles. In 2 years you're looking at this car having 160,000 miles and will probably be spending a good amount of money on repairs.

I've got an 03 with 99k on mine. Still running strong but if you're looking to buy I'd spend a little more and get a better year/better G

Just like any other car if well maintained for the most part it will last. And G's have no major issues minus oil consumption. Usually would of been taken care this late in the game. So I would say its fine but 25k a year is a lot of driving and with any car you will have to be on it. I'm at 78K no major problems yet.

I'd say it's worth 10-12. Nav ads a good chunk of cash on there.

Hold out for something new and less kms though. What's your budget?

It's important to note that the oil consumption issue only affects vehicles with the rev-up engine, which are mated to manual transmissions.

The engine in the G35 is nearly bulletproof. It will last a long time with relatively little maintenance. Naturally over time, gaskets and seals will dry up and require changing but you shouldn't run into anything out of the ordinary less regular maintenance. To give you an idea, I had a '96 Nissan Maxima, which my brother-in-law still drives. It's equipped with the first generation of the VQ engine, which you'll also find in the G35 - just more refined and with a larger displacement. The only major item I addressed on that engine was the valve cover gaskets at about 150k. I sold it to him at 160k and he's only had to replace the water pump at 210k. It has almost 220k now and still runs very strong.

If you can get the car for a good deal and if it's got a good maintenance history I think you'll be fine. I wouldn't pay any more than 12k for it if you are buying private party and no more than $13,300 at a dealer. These prices are with the nav in the equation. Of course, always haggle for less. Good luck!

I don't think anyone has answered this yet. The G has a timing chain. I have 135K miles in mine and it's still going strong. I just had to replace the battery, and did the normal maintanence. No other real issues.

KBB lists the private party value as:

Excellent: $10,860
Good: $10,060
Fair: $8,960

I wouldn't pay more than $10K for it.

I have 149K miles on my G right now...I've modified it a lot and haven't had problems in the long time I've had it.

I would rather buy a high mileage G for less money, than a low mileage G for thousands more. Don't spend money on a G with low mileage just so you can rack up miles.

My G has 105k, I'm very particular with it so maintenance is always first. It runs, drives, and looks better than cars with half the mileage.

i'd talk them down, once your over 100k you're starting to look at some major repairs within the first year or so. the money you save by talking them down a grand or two will REALLY come in handy when you find out someone has torn the tranny to ****, the muffler is half rusted through, and your bose gets an error message... and if that makes you give pause, think that the g is not a honda and not the cheapest to repair, even if you diy... no matter how good it is things are going to break around 120k 140k... its almost guaranteed.

Lots of miles

I am just past the 151,000 mile mark without any issues.

The last two Nissans I had both had over 220,000 miles before I sold them and both still ran just fine.

It depends on the car really. You really need to look it over and see if it's been well maintained and cared for.

The '07 G35x loaner i had this week while my '06 was in the shop had 25K miles on it and was a POS. It wandered all over the road, rattled over bumps, the brakes pulsated and it just felt "old". When i got my '06 back with 45K miles, it felt like i actually got into a newer vehicle with less miles!

If the car's been maintained, 100K is nothing these days. The prob is when you get the 100K mile car, where nothing's been done and it still has the original diff fluids and transmission fluids and overall looks abused.

It's like with anything, you take care of it and it's more likely to last.

Granted, i'm not saying go ahead and buy it. You really need to check it out.
