I realize the A/C dries the air, but it also wastes fuel, running a compressor when you don't need to. And I filp the airflow direction a lot, so I can see where it would really annoy me if the compressor came on every time I cycled through. I like that my controlls don't assume I'm too dumb to turn on the compressor if I need to.

 

I totally understand that A/C does not mean cold air...

The way I do it is... I see fog on the windows, I turn the defrost on which also turns on the A/C. Fog disappears, and the defrost goes off as well as the A/C. I don't want the A/C turning on just because I am switching the vent modes.... makes sense?

In my mind the Mode button should SOLELY control the vents from which air comes out. There is a defrost button, which switches the A/C on, so there is NO NEED for the mode button to switch the A/C on when you hit reach the window vents, and furthermore the A/C not turning off as you continue to cycle through.

Honestly, it's not that big of a "problem". It's something you get used to and then live with it... but I bring it up, because the design is still stupid.

 

I forgot to mention... I'm not a big fan of dry air and with manual you really do feel it when starting from a stop in 1st gear. That's just me.

 

I'm still trying to figure out why they changed it. On mine (2003.0) you can filp through modes all day without it turning the A/C on or off. Why should it? I have an A/C BUTTON for that AND a defog/defrost button! Then apparently, a few months later, Nissan decided we should always have the A/C on, so they added it into the "mode" cycle as well. So now, pressing AUTO, A/C, Defog, or MODE will turn on the compressor. I really don't need or want an A/C with 4 on buttons, and only 1 off button. I'm almost surprised they didn't just lock the A/C on and not give you any choice!
I'm glad mine doesn't have this 'feature' and I wish for you guys they wouldn't have gone backwards in design.

It actually works so much better some times with the AC compressor on. It was pouring rain here in the summer and just turning on the vents for the windows didn't unfog them at all. Once I turned the A/C compressor on it instantly started unfogging everything. The system works haha.

Also, it's just 1 button to turn it off, I never found that it's been a hassle for me at all.

 

No offence, but I don't know why some posts are explaining how A/C works, how well it works at getting rid of moisture on the windows, and so on... if you read my posts, it was never about that. It was about the Mode button switching the A/C on and keeping it on even if you didn't stay on the window vents... again, thats a stupid feature/design when you got a defrost button for that.

Anyways... lol... I now know my car is NORMAL and I'll leave it at that.

 

lol, we just explained it because it's proven that it works better at de-fogging the windows, which is why it automatically turns on once it hits the window vent mode. Maybe it shouldn't stay on, but it's just a matter of pressing the button again to turn it off, and most people haven't found this a hassle at all.

 

Honestly, I'm not very keen on the “MODE” button to start with. I would prefer something more tactile like a **** or a better button interface. The last thing I want to do when I'm driving is watch a display screen as I toggle through different airflow directions. I try to memorize the cycle so I can just reach over and tap the button 2 or 3 or whatever # of times, but I always seem to get it wrong and have to look at the display anyway.
If I wanted to go from feet to blend, I would have to cycle past the defog vents, thus turning on the a/c, and making me press yet another button to turn that back off... It's a stupid design any way you look at it.
Compare this with every other car I've had, and all my parents’ vehicles where you just reach over and turn a ****. Without even having to look at it, you know what you're doing.
I guess sense Infiniti set out to compete with German luxury, they decided they needed a stupid A/C interface as well.

 

I'm finding this whole thread a little amusing now... but I'm glad NFSP understands where I'm coming from!

Playa, again, this is NOT about defogging the window! LOL. When you say "most people haven't found this a hassle at all". I don't know if that's the case or not, but even if it is, I wouldn't go with "most people" as a gauge on what's good in cars and what's bad.

 

Lest we assume the Toyota Corolla is the best car ever made.
