MODE HVAC Button - Rant/Question
Got a question about how the "Mode" button is supposed to work. Right now when I press it, it will go in a sequence something like bottom vents, top vents, both vents, and window and bottom vents... after this if I continue to press the Mode button it repeats the same options but also turns on the A/C. I find that retarded and I'm just wondering if EVERYONE has that or if I'm doing something wrong? I'd like it to just go in a cycle without turning on the AC. If the A/C part is how it's supposed to work then all I got to say is the people at Infiniti are RETARDED! Seriously.... it's pretty normal that when I have the car on a warm temperature that I would want to switch between bottom and top vents a few times as I'm driving and I do not need the AC!
The other part is that the owners manual is quite crappy! I'm not a big fan of reading owner manuals but this is one case where I tried to refer to it and this isn't covered at all in it. Neither is the part on how the vents will switch as you change the temperature, something that has caused questions from a lot of people on here.
TIA!

Air conditioning doesn't mean making it colder. Moisture is also taken out of the air. That's why, when the defrosters are selected, it automatically turns on the A/C compressor. That way it dries the air before it gets to the windshield.
Yep, that's what happens with mine but it doesn't turn off as you continue pressing the mode button and the air vents are changed back to the none defrost ones. Would make sense if it did.
Probably normal. 03/04 have issues with HVAC and stereo operations with the stock dash piece though.

Mine was purchased by the first owner in June of 2003, so I don't know if that would make it 03.5 or not.
If they stopped doing that on the later releases then I guess they realized how STUPID the design was! There are times when I will switch the vent mode and not catch that the A/C went on until I hear it or something...
And again, that owners manual is CRAP! Little details like this should be covered instead of having the owner guessing.
Oh well, just something I have to live with. Still love the car

Also, I got manual, and doggy door version only came with auto if I'm not mistaking...
Yes the A/C goes on when you cycle through and it hits defrost. No it doesn't turn back off when you cycle through the rest of the options. It is like that in my 2006.
I really don't understand what everyone has the problem with. To reiterate: having the air conditioning on in the winter does not cause the system to blow cold air. It simply removes the moisture from the air so that your windows don't fog up.
If this "glitch" bugs you so much, save yourself the hassle and just put your climate control on auto.
