Are you running slicks or cheaters or street draggers(BFG/Nittos)?

I currently own both, G35 Sedan and the 350Z.
It is a drivers race. End of story.....

Re: ran against a 350z auto

I got to drive my friends brand new 6 speed z and was not impressed with its power. It was fast but didn't seem any faster than my sedan. At times it felt slower, but that could just be because I am not the best stick driver.

I definetly could see a sedan keep up with one or even maybe beat it depending on the conditions.
He had just put in a new stereo with a custom fiberglass box. I could see a z that has the weight of some fancy stereo including amps and subs losing to a stock G.

I have to also agree that the sedan has the best brakes compared to the non brembo z's.

The one thing that did impress me alot was the z's handling. That thing handled great. Their was no body lean what so ever.

Hell, it's a sports car - if it DIDN'T handle well - now THAT would be news (LOL) ! Glad you had a chance to do a direct comparison - thanks for letting us know what you felt.

I have a friend with a 2004 automatic "Z", and he hasn't ever really gotten on it fully when I've ridden with him (traffic, roadway & weather conditions, plus he's 72 yrs old and enjoying his first sports car, ever) - but the few times he's nailed it, it didn't seem to be noticeably "stronger" than my '04 6MT sedan (just louder, mainly - and that exhaust note IS sweet).

When you drag, are you using street tires?

Re: ran against a 350z auto

yes i do, and the tires show that. (missing a couple of small chunks of tread from the last time still)

If I could get hold of some drag radials, I could get a 1.9 for sure.

I hit 2.0's in the altima when I had it on Michelin Pilot Sport A/S's

If you are REALLY REALLY good (or lucky) you can hit 1.9's on street tires.

Re: ran against a 350z auto

Why no slicks? Do you want real world numbers or don't have an extra set of rims?

Re: ran against a 350z auto

i am just barely able to afford my G's payment, insurance, maintenance, tires. can't afford the slicks yet. gotta buy a washer and dryer this month (my 12 yr old whirlpool set died). next month is kitchen appliance and cabinet replacement (about $2k too much)

gotta love being grown up eh?

By the way, I gotta 2002 Jeep getting jealous too since I dont' have the money to mod that after putting BF Goodrich's on their last month

car's is expensive, but I only got 20 months left on my payment book

Re: ran against a 350z auto

Just do what I did and buy both, that way it will not matter which one is faster

Re: ran against a 350z auto

I have both, a 6MT 350Z and an auto G35 Sedan. In my opinion, the sedan is as fast as the Z, however, the Z sounds a little meaner and obviously rides a little rougher. The sedan gets up and goes in a hurry but I find myself backing off a little with it because it sounds like you're going to over rev it.

Re: ran against a 350z auto

I semi raced one this morning on I-80 and we were both in the fast lane and I expected him to leave me way behind but I managed to stay with him all the way up to 95mph until I backed off as it is just not my style to go that fast in traffic but I have to say that I am surprised how the G just wants to keep on going and never seems to feel like it has had enough.
I also sometimes back off as it feels like it is about to over rev but never does thankfully.

Re: ran against a 350z auto

sorry, if I am going to have two new vehicles, one will be a winter (i.e. Jeep) vehicle. the G does not go out in rain (cept roadtrips) or snow.
