ran against a 350z auto

auto vs auto and we were dead even all the way to about 125mph He asked me after "that can't be stock" I said bone stock auto. I wasn't impressed either way ... since I love the 350 and expected a whoop ***. same motor 30+ hp and about the same weight? 4seater vs 2. I always had a feeling the motors put out the same in any 3.5 regardless of what the factory says for marketing reasons.

I've got a 350 auto and there is no dead heat...the 350 smokes a G sedan. Looks like you got played with.

Re: ran against a 350z auto

nope, I call bull isht. come run against me. I have been beaten by Z's and beaten Z's(more than 1 carlength) Always within a couple of carlengths though. it is a driver's race in all regards. I have seen 6mt Z's stock run from 13.6 to 14.2 with good drivers.

With a simple tire upgrade, I have run a 13.8@101 at 1200 foot altitude in my G sedan 6mt and I am only an average driver. by the way that time corresponds to a 13.6 at sea level. I have other fairly insignificant mods in my sig

It is close enough that you will be surprised. There is always some variance in cars from the factory and you may have a "beast" but that is the exception rather than the norm. Hell, even in my automatic 3.5SE altima (RIP 4/2003) I could beat mildly modded (intake/exhaust) 6MT 350z's AT THE DRAGSTRIP with I/H/E mods only. And I was only running 14.4 in that at altitude.

So, in general stop the holier than though attitude, praise the man's good fortune and driving skills and get on with life.

By the way if you want to call out a Z against me, I live in arizona, i go to Firebird and Speedworld from time to time and would love to meet up with a Z. I give it a 50/50 chance to beat me, manual to manual. I won't put money on it but I will but a beer and some wings on it.

Re: ran against a 350z auto

Auto Vs. Auto, stock to stock there is no way, its not even a drivers race unless both are in MM Mode!! With just my injen intake though when that's all i had, i was beating stock coupes all the time, i have a few videos also, now that i am fairly heavily modded NA, i eat up 6 spd coupes and 350z's depending, they give me a serious run on the highway with my crazy high end and 19's right now. I think he was toying also. Martin :/

Re: ran against a 350z auto

Come on an auto 350Z is not much of different animal than the G sedan. A plenum is all it takes to SURPASS the performance of the 350 in auto formats. That same mod should affect the G more than it would in a Z as the Z is closer the the NA limit. Z's are great but it's easy to get that power plus some. 2 stockers would be a drivers race. I've raced planty of Z and they don't blow me away even when I was near stock.

Re: ran against a 350z auto

no, I am not an authority. But it only takes common sense to see there is only a hundred pounds or so difference from Z to G sedan and 20 something hp. Throw in the Nissan "adaptive" ECU and you have way too many variables. Say the driver weights are more than 50 lbs difference. there is half the weight difference. 1/8 to a full tank of gas is over 100 lbs difference. someone got 76 gas and someone got circle K blended gas. they are that close that those things can throw into the mix too many variables to say that the Z will beat the g every time. My altima dynoed at 234 whp, 240 ftlb torque. I had only 4 automatic speeds versus the Z's auto 5 speed and the manual 6 speed, yet I still beat some that I raced.

yes if you race someone in a g coupe you are throwing in an ADDITIONAL 200 lbs (+/- some depending on options) and in reality no more hp. I personally feel that racing a G sedan against a Z will be a closer race than a G coupe would be. But that is my opinion.

Again I offer, call out a mildly modded Z in Arizona against me. we will see how close it is. I am not a great driver. as with any manual car, my launches are not very consistent, but you will get an idea how the sedan stacks up. a beer and a dozen wings and some fun at the strip. my email address is seannolden@frontiernet.net if someone responds to this a few days from now or later and I am not following this thread anymore.

"Drama queen" is what i get called at home for acting like that...ITS A DRIVERS RACE. I've seen 3 z 6 speed in a row pull 14.5's.

ok i agree that you are one of the guys that is willing to put his opinion or his views out for everyone to see. that takes guts, I like the people that will take a risk. I dont' race someone when I know I will win, I race someone to see how well I can do. I don't mind getting beat. I know I can't beat every Z or even most z's out there. It is just that....well you've seen my posts above.

Don't get me wrong. I love the VQ, I have been driving Nissan just about exclusively for 15 years. I know my limits and don't mind getting put in my place. But I also know when I am right. I guess I kinda feel bad you feel insulted. I don't know how I insulted you. It is the internet, it is easy to say f**k it, and let that [censored] happen. But I value my reputation and want to make sure you understand where I am coming from.

A G, a Z, an Altima, a 5th gen Maxima (unsure about 6th gen's yet), are all close enough that the little subtleties will make the difference in straightline accleration.

Braking hands down goes to a brembo equipped z and for the non brembo equipped vehicles, the sedan takes it. Brembo's rule on the track. but any of the above who have upgraded fluid, pads and rotors correctly can keep up on any twisty street with normal cajones and reasonable speeds (i.e. <110 or so).

Handling is a tossup between the coupe and the Z depending on road surfaces. 200.00 plus tires on any of the above cars will even out the handling disparity. Beyond moderate suspension upgrades though, the Z will be the best platform to upgrade for handling. RWD is still the easiest safest platform to drive fast. Sorry I went on so long.....

Re: ran against a 350z auto

I am not pissed but I have had my wife and father beat my *** and others in the Z so I know what I have seen. Everyone has different experiences but I don't like seeing" I call Bull$hit" that sounds like a flame. Thats what pissed me off. I have been here for a while and I know the boards have changed and I need to get over it but...It hit me wrong. I do like hearing your numbers as I hope to get my G there or make the Z better. Please keep posting and I'll try to embrace the whole post and not just a sentence. I'm totally cool with the situation and thanks for explaining where you were coming from it helps me see that I need to raed evrything and not concentrate on the first line. We cool!!!!

Re: ran against a 350z auto

it works for me man.

I would have bought a Z if I had room in my bank account for a toy. just like teh z it all comes down to the launch. I have finally gotten good at gradually slipping the clutch. I can slip at about 3000 rpm and gradually give gas as I am rolling until I am all the way off at about 5500 rpm. it bogs some but since the rpms are all the way up it still goes like a bat out of hell

i have seen a maxima (2k3) with I/H/E/ pulley run 13.6 in the quarter at Moroso in Florida, no juice. dude hung a 1.8 60' in BF goodrich drag radials.

best time I have seen from a bolton z is 13.1 and that was mostly tires (full slicks 26x10 on 16" rims)

Re: ran against a 350z auto

Your right 3.5SE_auto, I have witnessed it multiple times with the 3.5 powered cars they all run pretty close with slight differences. For the past 15 years as well my wife and I have driven Nissans (Z's and Maxima's) with one lemon TL for her in 01 while the Z was on hiatus.
