raced a camero

I stoped at a light and this camero was seating their. The guy reved his engine and laughed at me, acting like there was no way I could even compete with him.

Well we raced and as soon as I shifted into second gear I smoked him. I beat him by a good car lenght. We raced until about 80mph.

At the next light he pulled up next to me and shook his head saying I won't be able to do that to him after he gets a tune up. He said he was suprised at how fast me sedan was and didn't know they were fast.

He had his car all debadged so I don't know what kind of camero it was. I asked him and he said it was one that shouldn't have been smoked by a sedan.

Its funny to see how attitudes change after you beat someone in a race.

I know his camero wasn't the v6(it was to fast and loud to be the v6) or the supersport It might have been a badly tuned z28. It had the dual exhaust of a z28.

Anyways I was proud of my sedan.

Re: raced a camero

There's nothing quite like the feeling of pulling ahead of the arrogant driver. I was driving home the other day along a winding, hilly road (Skyline Blvd for you Portlanders). There was an old truck in the lead, then a Porsche boxer, then me. The boxer was crawling up the truck's bumper and I, in turn, was right on the Porsche.

Now...before anyone calls bull$h1t on my story, let me tell you that, though this boxer is a superior handling car, the driver had 2 major disadvantages - he was arrogant and he didn't know how to drive. The latter worked to my favor and his arrogance made the whole experience sweeter.

The 3 of us (truck, boxer, me) all come to a stop sign. The truck turns off - now it's just me and the boxer. Dig this - the boxer driver looks at me in his rear view mirror, waves, and then peels out. Well...that just didn't sit well with me. I took off and stuck on his bumper like glue. Judging from the revving of his engine and the movements of his head and arms, he was really trying to lose me...and getting more and more frustrated that he couldn't.

Clearly he wasn't the best driver and I'll go ahead and take some credit as well - I had just completed a High Performance driving course a few days before. While I wasn't a real advanced driver, at least I was comfortable with the G's traction and wasn't afraid to launch into the twisties with this guy.

He tried and tried to lose me. I rode up his bumper the whole way. I mean my tires were howling and I was definitely approaching the limits. Finally we come to another stop sign and I've got to turn off to head home. I wave at him as I turn away, but no response from him.

If he just hadn't waved with that I've-got-a-Porsche-and-you'll-never-catch-me attitude, I probably would have just had my usual, quiet ride home. Pacing with a Porsche is one thing. But really sticking it to the arrogant Porsche driver is priceless!

Townesly - I call bull _ _ _ t !....just kidding !!!!!
I love those kinds of stories. Like you, I usually enjoy an easy ride home, but on rare occasion someone will tempt me to either race or stick close behind them..and stay there !
Thanks for sharing.

Dang thats good.

Unfortunately, I was on the other end of many races with Camero's. I raced several at the local drag strip and they were hitting low 13's. There were most likely SS's and V8's.

Wow, that's pretty reassuring. Good for you man, way to stick it to that guy. The F Body LS1's will run at least high 13's out of the box with a half way decent driver so I figure the guy had to have had a near stock one. None the less that is still a good thing to know. I actually own a 98 Z28 and am going to sell it at the end of the year and get either a 04 or 05 G35 Sedan. Man I'm gonna miss the all out raw horse power of my LS1 but I just can't stand the noise and driveability of it anymore.

Re: raced a camero

Ok it's a BoxTer not Boxer, Boxer is the type of the engine as you may know.

Chances are even he was a good driver and driving any plain Boxter (not S) from 1997-2004 you could have beat him since it's slower than a G35 Coupe 6MT

I think he probably had a Boxter S which is just about a blink of an eye faster than G35 Coupe 6MT driven by a good driver.

Boxter has good handling because of the inherent advantages in the design but it's no supercar!

Well Done!

I'll be on the lookout for that Porsche. We'll see if he's a little more polite next time he sees a G. Nice job Townsley.
