I put Hawk HPS on my sedan 20,000 miles ago. A few weeks ago, I started getting lots of pink colored dust on the wheels, about as bad as the stock pads were.

I bought new pads thinking something was wrong, but the existing pads still had 6 mm of pad. I put the new pads on anyway, but am wondering why the old ones started dusting.

The only other thing I noticed was that the caliper pistons have lots of rust. In fact, lots of rust fell on the ground when I rotated the caliper out of the way.

Wondering if others have seen this and what you found was the cause.

I guess if the dusting continues, I'll have to replace the calipers due to the rust.

i have an 03, havn't noticed that problem but i have noticed that my rears dust more than my fronts. either way lesss dust

Haven't heard of this before. Are your front brakes shot & the rears doing all the work?

my rears with HPS was CLEAN been about 8k

No point replacing the calipers because of the rust; most of it can all be cleaned up. The piston having rust on the outside (I know exactly where you're talking about) is normal unless someone regularly greases that part of it... but in any case, it has no effect on performance, on the inside the piston will be perfectly fine and continue to do it's intended job.

The Hawk HPS pads were marginally dustier than my front OEM pads (keep in mind that 05-06 pads are less dusty than 03-04). It was noticeable by the thicker coat on the rear wheels. They also tore into my rotors pretty badly requiring replacements. I guess the OEM rotors are too soft for the Hawk HPS pad.
