Gas Mileage
Gas Mileage
Hey everyone,
I hav e spent quite sometime looking through the FAQ's and also all the other threads I found about gas mileage sucking on these cars. I thought I would make a post about my situation.
I have a 2005 Inifiniti G35 (6 speed) Sports Sedan. I get about 225 miles per tank. Which puts me at 14 MPG. I drive all city. I made absolutely sure on this last fillup, that I drove like a grandma. This didnt help what so ever. I know gas mileage on these cars isnt the best, but seriously 14 MPG? How are other car owners getting 18-21 city? Something possibly wrong with this?
THanks for any help! I appreciate it.

14mpg is brutal. do you spend a ton of time idling, in stop-and-go traffic? that's the only way i can see 14mpg, if you say you granny'd it. make sure your maintenance is up to date, air filters changed etc...
my 04 6mt regularly gets 500kms (313mi) to a tank (60L) 90% city commutes. the 19" coupe rays hurt a bit, but not much. i usually shift by 2500rpms, and i skip shifts often as well. usually 1-3-5, or 2-4-5 if at a "rolling stop". aside from that i'm just easy on the go pedal, unless i want to have some fun...
i have seen 30+ mpg on highway road trips.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods

How many miles are on your car? You might think about changing your spark plugs, Seems odd to me that you get that bad mileage.

NO ONE can help you untill you calculate MPG correct which is. fill up completely, reset the trip meter on the dash. drive for a wheel and then when you fill up write down gallons filed and divide that by miles on your odometer.
saying you get 225 from F and E doesn't mean much as light comes on with 2 gals left.
MPG is always a touchy subject. I get 18-20 on my AWD 80% highway. i'm running tip top shape.

Just to add, i say to try to use the same exact pump. Differences in nozzle design may shut off the slow sooner than others.
I get about 21.5MPG mixed with my X.
^ But by 'tank' are we to assume the 16-18 gal until the fuel light comes on, or the bit over 20 gal actual tank size? Given what can be counted as a 'tank' and the 100km differance he gave, leaves room for anywhere from 18.6 to 27 MPG!
I just drove about 900 miles over Thanksgiving, mostly highway, and got around 22.5 MPG. But that was averaging close to 75 mph, with 80-ish for very long stretches (gotta love Michigan's 70 mph speed limit with almost no troopers in sight). It would have been better but I forgot to clean my air filter before I left. I'm sure it's pretty mucked up since I haven't touched it since late summer.
I can usually put about 16.5 gallons in when the light comes on. I always fill it to the top, and it's been pretty consistent.
