Interstate 95 run

I'm heading down Int. 95 from New England down to Myrtle Beach, S.C. for a lil' R&R(beach, drinking, golf, drinking, partying, drinking). This will be my G's first big road trip. I plan on doing this on a Sunday, how's the D.C. and
Virginia traffic these days? Any other issues along this hwy?

I do know the traffic through Philly can be a bit heavy at times, and fast paced too, also when there in late June, there was some big construction, lane shifts, etc, just as you go into Philly from the North, maybe around Academy Rd.

Re: Interstate 95 run

DO NOT go through DC at rush hour! Or should I say, YOU CAN'T go through DC at rush hour.

That would be 7:00-9:00 am and 3:30-7:00 pm.

And completely forget going south on 95 on a Friday after 2 in the afternoon. I drove to a spot just south of Richmond every other weekend last summer. If I left before noon it was a 2:15-2:45 drive. After 2:00 it was a 6 (SIX!!) hour drive.

Tell me about it, I got a ticket on Hwy 501 the last time I was there.

Re: Interstate 95 run

I drove to Florida (from NJ) last month and in April. I didnt see ANY SC troopers on I95. By far, the most I saw were in New Jersey closely followed by Maryland.

I was also previously warned about SC cops but I just never saw them. That said, I made some good time through SC (like 2 1/2 hrs) in my minivan.

Oh yeah, those Jersey State Cops are everywhere, last time I drove down I-195, I counted probably ten cops sitting along the highway, poised to go!

Re: Interstate 95 run

Hmmmmmm,
maybe I should rent a mini-van for the week.
Save the 3k miles on the G, have more cargo room,
and go stealth.

Re: Interstate 95 run

If i was you, i would spare an extra half a day and catch some good drives along the way, though a bit off route. Suggestions: I-95 to NY/NJ to I-80 to I-81 all the way to Virginia, travel Sky Drive and Blue Ridge Parkway as long as time permits or touch on some attractive sections (winding, scenic) and get back on I-81 when it is time/tired and head I-40 to charlotte and to Myrtle Beach.

Again, this might add at least 30% to your travel time, but I-95 is the most boring route i have ever driven. And while you put all these miles on the G-35 how abt checking one more box off the list of US highways worth driving with the G's handling and performance. I have done this both ways from NJ to Greenville, SC and then to Charleston, SC and back and trust me, you wont regret taking this route). Just my 2 cents. Fall season is nearing, blue ridge mountains will be gorgeous.

Re: Interstate 95 run

Thx, sounds nice, just don't think I have the patience or time to add more hours to the 13 hour(maybe less in the G ) ride I have to go each way.

Re: Interstate 95 run

Last time I drove from NC to Philly on I-95, I left at 10:30pm. It was fabulous. Did the same thing coming back home.

Re: Interstate 95 run

He speaks the truth about that drive through the mountains on the Blue Ridge. Spent 4 years in Greenville, SC for school and drove up north of that area often. I had a Grand Cherokee, and all I could think of was "Man this would be so cool with a sportscar!" Also made the drive from Greenville to Myrtle many times, and it took maybe a little over 3 hours if I remember right. If you want to see some sights and really get down in some twisties it would be well worth your time.

Re: Interstate 95 run

With the G, it is not really the destination, but the journey that matters most. Comeon, you can do it RJP6...!!.

By the way, why can't Infiniti (or even g35driver.com with support from sponsors and help from volunteers?) organize a rally similar to the Ferrari Challenge Rally (ferrarichallenge.com it runs through some of the gorgeous roads in CA). Hey our cars may not be as good as ferraris, but our love for our G is no less than what Ferrari owners have for theirs :-) So we deserve such events to share our passion too.

Re: Interstate 95 run

Don't forget to turn off the radar detector through DC and Virginia. I think they are still illegal.
