you know.. in the morning when the car is cold.
1. open your radiator cap and refill to the top..
2. check your reservoir, and make sure it's at the MAX line in the morning (cold)

i had to do this every other day for about 10 days.. and now the level doesn't move.. i am thinking that i am clear of any air pockets.. (i refilled about half a cup to a cup each time I did refill it.. which really isn't too much)

Save the money and have the dealer do it. That way - if it happens again they are responsible and have to do the flush/fill again until they get it right.

Trust me, it took THE DEALER 3 times! not my buddy the mechanic - but the dealership.

i dont know.. if you do it yourself.. it's $25 vs $100 at the dealer..
and making trips to the dealer to top it off is annoying as hell..

checking the level every morning at your garage wastes 2 minutes of your time..
if my case, the dealer would be wasting at LEAST a hour (just on the commute)..

the change is fairly easy..

Exclamation

Look,

We can always compare costs and savings.

What you can not compare is one's knowledge to their lack of.

If someone can not afford to do something, then they can't do it.

If someone can not complete a task (regardless of, experience, know-how, etc.) then it won't be done right.

It may take you two minutes to check the level, fill the level without bubbles, cap it off, run the engine, then check the level again. Sounds like you have done this a few times, am I right?

He might not understand what the concept is....it will take him more time and he may not even be successful at the end. He might also spend more money on coolant because of the amount of times he is going to have to do it after failing. I really can't wait to hear what happens towards the end.

It's not that easy as you say for "other" people who are not really experienced with doing this. That is why I suggested taking it to the dealership, people always say how "easy" it is to do things, when sometimes its more difficult then you assume for someone else.

That's all - just let me know what you think --- just a friendly response because I do understand your point... do you get mine?

it was my first time..
the guys changing your oil/coolant at the dealership are the same class of monkeys at your local grease monkey.. (different from guys working on the engine/suspension/etc)

i understand if he can't change his own oil, that he might want to take it to the dealership.. but i am GUESSING he is somewhat competent. (he did ask a question at an online forum)

worse comes to worst.. he'll be out $25 by DIY.. no hard feelings..

Nice! Be sure to check if you posted anything you regret now that it's morning

Let us know how the flush goes. Just be sure to use a pre-mix antifreeze - never pour the full strength stuff directly into your radiator!

I have been meaning to see if there was a thread for this for weeks. It drives me crazy having to rev my motor at idle just to stay warm, not to mention cops think you want to race them when they are next to ya. Not good!!! And try explaining the problem to them. "Oh I have to rev my engine at stop lights to stay warm" SURE!!!

Thanks guys again will try to fix as soon as I get home!!!

Sorry for the crazy thread revival

I'm having the same problem.
Have been hearing the swishing water sound after startup for a week or so while idle coming at a stop sign etc.

Wasn't sure what the noise was and didn't pay much attention to it.

Yesterday I noticed my heat wasn't working after the car was on for a long time (Temp set to 90*) and Coolant gauge was in the middle

Drove around a while and finally felt the heat coming on.

I plugged up my OBD 2 scanner and saw the coolant temp read 186.7*!!!!

Parked the car for a few mins and felt the heat getting colder again. At this point I'd been driving for about 30 mins. Rolled the window down and smelled the sweet coolant smell. At first I thought oh crap the thermostat is going bad and is stuck open...worse I may have a leak somewhere.

Thank God the car never overheated.

1. Based on all of this, do you all think there's air in my system?
2. Is the problem possibly the thermostat itself?
3. Why would I smell coolant?
4. I also noticed the reservoir is way below the Max line. Is that sign of a leak?
