Problems w/ ac unit/radio

A friend of mine has a 03' G35 Sedan and noticed that his ac controls and radio display aren't working. He still has the ability to change radio stations using the controls on the steering wheel but when you look at the radio it doesnt have a display lit anymore. Plus his ac controls are like stuck on one setting, if you hit any of the buttons of the controls it does nothing.

What can this be???

Common problem with '03s. If yo do a search, you'll find others with the issue.

Prob lies in the HVAC board. It needs to be replaced, or have your friend do a DD conversion with aftermarket stereo.

by doing a DD w/ a custom stereo will this problem be resolved?

Or is my friend going to have to replace the HVAC board plus get a DD kit w/ a custom stereo?

you have to get the metra/jdm radio kit. They have the hvac controls built in..

Then you need a radio.

It's a very common problem. You'll have to replace it (too much money for stock crap) or get the Metra or JDM/DD kit.

In the meantime, give it a good whack. I'm not kidding. I saw someone else give this advice and thought they were crazy, until a few weeks ago when my ac controls stuck, I hit the side of it like an old panasonic tv and whaddayakno... it works again

Where can one get the the Metra or JDM/DD kit at a reasonable price? Also, is this fix pretty simple DIY? I have been giving my climate control the gold ole whack recently and it's ticking me off.

^The Metra kit can be had cheap off eBay, or see if there is a vendor here that has it.
I think the best place to go for the JDM/DD kit is probably riverside, or look for one used.
You can DIY, I took apart my radio with only a haynes manual to help, but you do have to take a lot of stuff off to get to it, so it's not "pretty simple"

When I had the issue I just changed the fuse under the hood and it was my fix, my radio still going factory strong.

My AC was stuck at 75 or something and the radio wouldn't light up. I changed the radio fuse in the fuse box by the battery, I think it was a small fuse (15), and that was my fix.

The problem is not your HVAC board, its your audio unit. I replace about 5 a week at the dealership...

^ The HVAC controls are on the same board as the audio unit.

the problem has nothing to do with the controls at all.. It has an internal failure in the radio itself. The radio needs to be replaced

I had the same problem, I ended up buying an 04 head unit from a member on here. Now everything works perfect. I would suggest doing what nghiars said. Find a shop that specializes in radio repair, it'll probably be cheaper than anything else mentioned. Also, removing the head unit is pretty easy after you do it once or twice you'll be able to do it in a few minutes.
