g35x review?

Who has driven the g35x?

have a 04 g35 coupe and love it, wondering if the g35x will be a good addition, if the awd is really great for the snow and if it's slow/quick/fast...etc.

thanks for the help!

Re: g35x review?

I think the AWD is awesome in the dry, wet, snow......

It truly has a rear-biased feel, unlike the audi s4 or the WRX.

As far as fast goes, it is a couple of tenths slower than the average rwd sedan. I have run 14.7 @ 94mph with only a k+n drop-in.

Where this car really shines is in marginal traction situations, where the AWD operates seamlessly to propel you forward where 2wd cars would be spinning helplessly.

Re: g35x review?

I've had my G35x since late January and I am very happy with it. My prior car was a BMW 330xi. The G is much more powerful with Auto or Stick! Don't get me wrong, the bimmer is a great car and I do miss certain things about it but the G gives you so much more bang for the buck. I had a chance a few months ago to run with a 350z on the highway on a saturday morning so there was no traffic really. He started at the toll behind me and I had a feeling the way he was creeping up my rear that he wanted to go so I turned the VDC off and autosticked it. He didn't pass me (was about 2 car lengths behind and keeping that pace) and I took it up to a little over 120. I had to slow down though because when you're going that fast you catch up to traffic pretty quick!!! Once I slowed down, he saw his chance and went around me. I tried to catch him and took it up to 135 mph but he was gone! He must have had like 200 feet on me! I backed off rather than take it to the claimed 146 mph governor. I don'e know if he was toying with me at first but I figure being the engines are similar I could keep him at bay until we reached beyond 120mph. Ok enough of that. To answer your question, the G35x is 98% as responsive as the RWD sedan and coupe. The AWD system does have the slightest amount of hesitation when you step on it for a standstill. The way around it is to take the VDC off and hold the brake down while revving it up to roughly 2000rpm. I found that gives you a pretty good launch. The handling is really good too. I take turns just as fast as I did with the 3 series. Hope this helps your decision.

Re: g35x review?

mdkip,

Agreed that the g35x is faster than a bmw. I am actually still debating on whether I should get the bmw325xi or the g35x. Prices is about the same. Of course the g35x is way faster but I can't really stand the interior. Hopefully the 05's will correct that problem. It's not even in the same ball park as bmw. The horses does kinda make it up but the interior just doesn't cut it for a 35k car. Even the Acura TSX at 26k has a better interior I think.
