My 03 Jetta had this, but if you pull the door handle from the inside it opened right up. So it was never an annoyance and there isn't any safety issue. I drive through some pretty sketchy neighborhoods and I wish this car had this feature.

I could live with that kind of setup. It's when the doors autolock and don't open from the inside that drives me crazy.

You can lock all the doors by pushing a single button within easy reach of the driver's (and passenger's, for that matter) seat. I hate a car that locks the doors itself, or unlocks them after locking them, or only locks this or that door, or under this or that circumstance/gear selector position/speed/etc.

If you're in a bad area, push the button. Geez.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I think that mostly American cars auto lock... All the cars that I've driven (Fords and Lincolns) auto lock the doors when you go above 5 mph also unlock the door when you pull the handle inside the car so I never thought about locking and unlocking the door. But now with my G35 my girlfriend always locks the door and I can't get out of the car when we get somewhere... It is soooo annoying lol. But I see that kptech's auto lock module automatically unlocks the doors when the ignition is turned off... so that might not be too bad...

I don't get it... either tell your girlfriend to only lock her door (not the button that locks all of them), or you pull the little lock latch and open the door.

I cant believe a button is enough of a problem for some people to warrant an entire thread

Lol well, I've only had this car for 2 months, so I'm still used to my older cars, all of them, for the past 8 or so years, I was able to open the door without thinking about unlocking the door. That's why its annoying.
Also my girlfriend is paranoid... always thinks something bad is going to happen... oh well lol

The VW setup really is nice, for some reason the rear passengers have to pull the handle twice, but the front seats pull once and its unlocked. Actually if your dealer is handy with the computer tool, you can set it up a number of different ways, but the door handles will always open if you pull them. It's nice I miss it actually.

I recently got a 2010 G37xS as a loaner for a few days and that has the auto-lock feature. Perhaps you should upgrade
