Top end run against a coupe
Top end run against a coupe
Finally had, the opportunity to run against what I believe was a 5AT coupe on the turnpike. For the most part I was trying to get to work quickly as possible for a meeting. I guess the coupe driver saw how well I was able to navigate through traffic and decided to take up pursuit - no adolescent antics just pure well timed moves. He was always behind me about 3 - 4 car lengths anyway traffic gets a little thick so he is able to pull in directly behind me at about 70mph. Once past the traffic I get on it I pull ahead slightly say a half car length and we go from there up to an indicated 138 or so give or take a couple of mph. He's "drafting" me the whole time directly behind me. Traffic up ahead we slow again, this time I pull to the right get a glance he's smiling, so I decide to let him get in front to see how well can pull or not pull with the benefit of a draft. Traffic clears again he tries to pull - he was able to pull maybe 5ft or so before I quickly closed the gap and was attached to him, he could not pull off. We ran again to triple digits I was close enough to his rear bumper to where I could not see his license plate, so I was able to return the draft favor. Traffic up ahead we had to slow he goes to the extreme right lane I go to the left. He could only watch as I sifted though traffic once again - this time I did not allow him to catch me. Our run lasted approximately 10 to 15 miles this is after the early morning rush hour traffic so the turnpike is virtually clear with the exception of occasional traffic. I had more than enough time to get an idea of how my basically stock 5AT sedan (w ztube/stillen cab) sould do against a similarly speced coupe. the black tinted coupe had the 17's and and a small K & N decal above the right rear tailight. If your on this board nice running with ya. Perhaps we'll run again. As many have stated before sedan vs. coupe performance is probably more marketing than anything else. However, I do notice that the coupes seem to have faster throttle response.
Sorry for the long post I've been waiting for quite some time for a run like this.
