Ran with an M3

Nope.. this is not one of my fantasies about how my sedan "smoked an M3" but just to let you know that there is some respect in the BMW community for our cars.

I saw an M3 weaving through traffic and decided to catch up to him. As it turned out we ended up side-by-side at the light. When the light turned green we both punched it. I kept up till half way through 3rd gear and then I heard his engine wind up. After that I was left looking at his rear bumper.

I caught up to him at the next light and we both rolled our windows down. I told him I liked his car and would probably be driving one if I had that kind of money. He said that he was surprised how well I kept up and gave me the thumbs up and said I had a nice car too.

The only thing my wife could say, as she was in the car at the time, as I drove away was.... "Boys!!"

Re: Ran with an M3

LOL sounds good =) Unfortunately the only M3 i could beat is a SMG convertible, thats like a double no no for an M3!! My friend with his SMG coupe wont race me though haha, cause he has the ugliest chrome rims on his car and a huge system in his car, he ruined the car!

You lowered it with springs right? It is a compliment. Wheels can usually detract from the car. Yours stand out but look like thy belong. Are they lighter than stock?

SixFive...

How are you liking your Hotchkis sways??
I'm hoping to get some installed before a "track day" at a local raceway in October.

Re: Ran with an M3

Prob better mod than 30 horsepower for a track - they are the best mod i could have done. Rock steady over bumps and higher speed turn in and NO rollin.

Re: Ran with an M3

Yea man i had an eye for them and pictured them on my car and did it right with the offest and everything so they look flush and aggressive. My older ADR's were about the same as my stock 17's maybe a lb lighter but the new HP's are def. heavier and thats why my Gtech run surprised me.
Six with your hotchkis sways, is there any grinding, rubbing noise that others have had? I want to get them but maybe i'll do it after the winter.

Re: Ran with an M3

I'm assuming from your sig that you're running Medium stiffness both front and rear -- I'm told that is a good starting point, and that I may want to go stiffer in the front for the track.
Any feedback??

Re: Ran with an M3

I had squeaking and crunching. Crunching was from being too loosely bolted and squeaking was from no or little grease being applied by my mechanic. Infiniti tried to tell me they were installed wrong so at least i stayed away from them in the first place. (they installed brakes a day after sways while they were crunching).

As far as M/M yes that's for medium fornt and rear settings. I was going to move the rears to in between soft and medium to cut out some of the snappy oversteer. Going H/M would prob offer a similar balance even less roll and more rigidity. Start with H/H is what the manufacturer reccommends.

Re: Ran with an M3

What some people have done is to drill, tap and install a lube nipple into the bushing support. This makes it alot easier to keep lubed.

There is a thread about this already

Re: Ran with an M3

WHich car are you going to put the sways in LOL. Coupe, Sedan or m3. We used sythetic white grease on the bushings and he torqued them down to like 300#.
