Any tips? I currently and just using blue painters tape to hold it in place, but yea once I get perfect fitment how the heck do I make sure it stays that way when I take it off to pull the tape

Once I pull the protective tape, and put it on my car, can you or cant you move it any more? Does that glue/tape have some sort of cure time?

Like I could pull the protective film, stick it on the best I can, then move it a little bit to position it the way I want?

Thanks
I've never done this with a trunk lip... but with 3M taped emblems, I use a small spray bottle with 50/50 mix distilled water and 70% isobutyl alcohol (90% would be fine too)...

Spay the solution on the trunk and quickly position your piece (taped and ready)... you will be able to slide it around a little for about 30 seconds... once it's where you want it just press and hold for a bit...

I imagine if its bent/bowed you might need to figure out a way to keep it pressed firmly onto trunk (someone else that has done the M3 spoiler may have pointers there)...

Good luck - post pics!

Once you stick it onto your trunk you can't reposition it(move it back and forth) unless you take it off completely but that might mess with the stickiness of the 3m tape, in which case you'd have to reheat the double sided tape with a blowdrier. Your best bet is to stick it on one corner and then see if it matches the other side without completely sticking the whole lip onto the trunk.

^ i'm sure is true, i've never heard of that method, i'm talking about the regular stick on and go type of way you really only have one shot to do it right unless you have an extra roll of 3m tape handy. Let us know how it goes Screensavers

^ this is going to kill me, I need perfection!

the 50/50 is a great suggestion, but I am going to need more then 30sec lol. fak

I got some blue painters tape that can hold it in place no problem, just getting it there..

bah, mission impossible after dinner lol.

If I make both sides equal then tape one side so I have the space figured, out I would need to bow it back right dab in the center for it to look the same on both sides, Ill play a bit more before I stick it on.

Thanks for all the suggestions, Ill take pics

taping off the location should be pretty easy... or use a magnetic flexible straight edge (that's what I use) - you can get them at auto paint supply stores (maybe Home Depot type places too)...

well its on, lol I got it taped down and some weight on it. I hope it came out good, cant really tell since its night and all the taped up lol. I sprayed a crap load of IPA and uh it still stuck pretty good lol, I had to take it off completely once since it was all out of wack, it better not fly off on the highway or ill kill someone.

btw how much would a molded one cost?

I am not too happy right now with this ebay one, but once its all set and the sun comes out I hope I am impressed lol.

yeah, hopefully you will like it once you see it in daylight... If not, you can always re tape with 3M and try again... good luck

As far as molding it in - it might be worth it if you ever intend to shave the trunk too (remove emblem and filled holes)... as for price you'd have to ask your shop as I'm sure the price will very widely... it isnt cheap, but its doable ~

^take a paint-safe wax/grease marker and mark positioning on it, then be really careful putting it on.

--edit. Oops. I posted this after the end of page 5, didn't realize there was a whole other page oh well, whatever.

isn't that 1/8"

I peeled tape from the middle of the lip spoiler. Set it down to where it where I wanted it and had my wife hold one edge. Then I pulled tape, got the middle positioned and slowly worked my way to one side. Did the same thing with the other side.
