Broken G

Well guys Bad day for the G. Somebody slammed into the rear of my while it was parked. Man I wish i could find the guy. Anyway both my rear lights are smashed and I had a question. Do you think the shop will replace them with 05 or 06 tailights at the same price? I was looking up the OEM pricing and they are similar. Will the collision center consider this?

I believe they will replace them with the 05-06 tails as long as you request them. Same thing happen to a friend of mine with his 05 TL and when he replaced them He told them he wanted the type-S lights and they gave it to him. Just not sure if they charged him extra but i can find out later on today. (i also pm'ed you).

Depends slightly on insurance. Is insurance paying or are you? If you are then there's no reason for a body shop not to replace them with 05/06 taillights if you tell them to. If insurance is paying it can depend somewhat on the insurance company. Some are really tight on which shops you have work done at, others are much more lenient, letting you pick the shop. As long as you have a little wiggle room, you could try explaining your situation to a shop, and if they won't help go to another shop.

For example. My insurance company is very good about letting me pick the shop I use, so I always take it to the shop a friend of mine manages. With one of my Trans-Ams I was able to tell him not to replace the damaged fog light ($120) but instead use that money to upgrade to an aftermarket hood that was only slightly more than $120 over the price of an OEM hood. I paid the $20 or so difference out of pocket. And picked up much nicer set of aftermarket fog lights for $13 on closeout

There are no aftermarket lights so you dont have to worry about them replacing with those. Just talk to shop. If the price isnt outragous it shouldnt be a problem. If anything just tell them you will pay the difference. At my shop we always have people wanting aftermarket hoods and stuff to replace the oem with. just talk to them before hand.

A insurance company cannot tell you where to take your car to have it fixed. It is completely up to the owner of vehicle. They may suggest where to take it to but cannot tell you where. They will try to make it seem that they can but cant. They have places that they get deals from where they lower labor rates and give them a break on part prices so they try to push those on you.

^I thought that was per state
They never gave may any trouble at all though, and my cousin's insurance tried to get ticky with him.
If that's the case then, the OP can just shop until he finds a shop that will cooperate
