I wouldn't get that car.

As for your comment on getting a coupe. Not sure if you are paying for your own insurance or how old you are but I'm 26 and I save a $100 a month on insurance by owning a sedan instead of a coupe.

I'm just gonna say.. I would NEVER buy a rebuilt title car... especially for that money.

Much better deals out there.

I wouldn't tell you what to do, but some thoughts, if the car really was totaled in 2003 (check carfax) then it has gone 72,000 miles since then, can't be too bad of a driver. The 300 whp thing I'd chock up to salesmanship, HP numbers are made to be bumped, lol, it is possibly close to that at the crank. I'm surprised at how many people here assume that because a car is modded it's been abused, heh, most of you wusses mod and then drive it like a grandma. Anyways, I'm convinced that the Oil usage issues are caused by under-driving the car not overdriving it. All in all it'd probably be safer to just walk away but if you like it it wouldn't hurt to check it out, drive it a bit...

Although i would consider the deal... i would have to find out why it was salvaged if the parts were only 11k in 2003.. the car was still a 35+k car and would not have been totalled out.

Too much for not enough. I got my 03 with 99,000 for $8,700 + tax (9,300 out the door)
Clean title, one owner, full service record, good carfax (only one very minor bump in the back that the seller was very forthcoming about) I'm just over 1 year and 16,000 mi later, and the car has been a champ.

It's going to depend on which state you live in and what kind of policy your parents have. In my state (Michigan), I know insurance is tied to the vehicle, not the driver. A few years ago, I hit a deer with my dad's car, and it was covered by his insurance even though I had my own car and my own insurance and wasn't on his policy at all.

And if your B-day isn't until August, then definitely take a pass on this car. You've got plenty of time to find a better deal. When I was looking for my car, I wanted some very specific items (AWD, CPO, certain colors, etc.), so I looked at literally 100 or more cars on Autotrader or cars.com. I was willing to go get the car I wanted. I'm not saying you need to do this kind of research, but take your time and look around and get the car you really want and you won't regret it. And don't be afraid to look at something you'd have to drive to get. A hundred miles each way to get a great deal is nothing in the long run.

BTW, the Sedan is faster than the Coupe (same engine, but it's a little lighter).

Man by your BD, there will be plenty more cars available, specially for the money you thinking of spending.

I'd look into it, he seems upfront and even welcomes a mechanic or body tech to check it out. Worth taking a look at least.
