Anyone tried one of the synthetic blends?

To me who want to switch back to dino may get benefit of some synthetic going this way.

I have used it a couple of times and seems to be ok not much oil consumption. The oil goes down from the top line on the dipstick to the middle between oil changes of around 3500miles.

don't mean to sound like a conspiracy nut, but i wouldn't be surprised if infiniti recommends the mineral oil in order to keep you coming back more often for oil changes which may result in other additional service work for them. just a thought, since there really is no technical reason for their recommendation that i can see..

Flag... you hit the nail squarely on the head. Every manufacturer that includes free maintenance uses synth, this reduces the amount of "free" work the service depts. perform. And the change intervals are usually quite long, 10, 12K miles or more.

But with Infiniti, every oil change is a paid-for service, hence the more oil changes we owners perform, enhances the service department's revenue. And of course, there are those service packages that the service writers are always pushing... full of unnecessary services. Conspiracy...no, greedy revenue produing plan... yes.
